• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm new Any Help? (Gmax based)

Hi I've been looking through the forums for days, and I can't find out how to make some decent ground scenery and custom buildings in gmax. I found gmax based tutorials that teach how to use g-max and it's features, but after reading through the forums, I've seen people saying you need to use scasm for ground scenery, or manually tweak the file, and quite frankly I'm getting confused. On top of that I dont want to create an entire international airport to find I have to redo it again. If you know of any tutorials for FSX that are decent please show me to them.

Much thanks, PilotSSW

P.S. how do people make such good textures for FS?
just an after-thought

I a newbie to, but I'll try to help.

I use Gmax build taxiways, runways, runwaymarkings etc. (so called "groundpolys"). The odd thing with FSX and FS2004 is that you have to use the old SDK from FS2002 to make those groundpolys work correctly. This is where the twealing comes in. It may be a bit confusing in the beginning, but you'll get into it! I suggest that you take a look at the FSdev wiki. Look for "Ground polygons with GMax".

The textures are mainly made in programs like "Photoshop". Maybe start out with an asphalt picture and recreate it for FS.

To design 3d buildings for FSX you use the SDK that followed with FSX Deluxe. Try to follow the tutorial in the SDK.;)
If you dont have Deluxe you can't get the SDK either, sorry. :(

My MSN is flyetgeir [ a ] msn . com if you need help.

Hi,

Btw, you would only have to use GMax for your ground polygons if you want to use custom textures. If you are happy with the default textures and how the default airports look, but just want to add a new apron or taxiway, you can best use the XML code of BGLComp to do this. FsX Planner and ADE give you a GUI to edit these (like AFCAD for Fs2004).

Thanks

Thanks for replying everyone, yeah I found a G-max tutorial that is for someone who has never worked with Discreet/Autodesk tools. It works it way through bic beginner all the way to highly advanced stuff, so I'm learning G-max, but I really appreciate people helping with FS

P.S. Yeah Arno, I'm want to learn to make custom ground, both poly's and textures, so I've got a little ways to go, but thank you
