• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm working on aircraft... (2017)

Today (01-03-2017) is the official start date of my first Blender2FSX project - General Dynamics "YF-16" prototype (#1 and #2)

Why did I choose the YF-16?
As a child i've have always been fascinated by aviation, computers and their endless abilities and (fast) jet aircraft.
The (Y)F16 is - for me - the first jet to combine my 3 passions, a highly agile, versatile, multi-role and fast jet that "fully-flies-by-wire".

While there already have been many modeled "F-16's " (block1 - 60) for many flight-simulators on the planet, the 1st YF-16 seems to be forgotten by many of us..
She was the very first - the #1 prototype of a whole new generation of "Light Weight Fighters" (LWG) as we know them now today.
My "YF-16 Prototype" project is going to restore her in all her glory... as she was the very first of 'm all.. the one that gave birth to the rest of the F16 family, globally.

Why did I choose Blender?
I've always been a fan of the "open-everything" philosophy, like the original old-school hackers introduced
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_ethic
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackers:_Heroes_of_the_Computer_Revolution

"Blender"(www.blender.org) is (Dutch ;-) a perfect example what can happen when one person opens up their world and shares the fruits of her/his labor with the world.
Besides creating aircraft and scenery for many flightsimulators, Blender offers me a very bit, free, open-sourced digital toolbox for many more things that I want to do in the future with it.
And above all, Blender offers expandability (see the Blender2FSX toolbox scripts) and customizabiliy through the already build-in Python interface.
So modeling my "YF-16" in Blender is a very effective way to blend useful learning about 3D modeling and 100% pure fun into 1 nice project.

Why will it be freeware, an Open-Source project return to the community?
1st reason:"Practice what you preach", in full alignment with the original "Hacker-Spirit".
By passing on everything that i've learned on this project (and along side of it) to the rest of the world. And as some of you might have noticed, I love creating stuff, writing tutorials (see the libraries of flightsim.com / avsim.com for more on that subject) and being busy in the area of "knowledge transfer".

2nd reason: as a very practical way of:
- saying Thank You! for all those individuals - for who i've learned - those who have done the same
- educating the new kids on the block in the "Art of Blender", Aircraft creation and C++ programming
since there are not so many absolute beginner level tutorials to be found on the Internet.

Why should I keep all the gained hands-on-keyboard knowledge to myself, when I can choose to contribute it to the growth of others as well (with a little extra effort)?

Thank's Heretic for the kind offer, I havn't even considered the interior model & VC yet & as I havn't done a VC before this will be the first & will probably take some time to do.

The hardest part is to begin; however make sure to gather every image available. Perhaps this will be helpful:

And for future modeling, several aircrafts are available too. The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force website:

Also, a lot of patience.
Sergio.

The B-26 has always been a favorite of mine. A great medium bomber even if, reportedly, not easy to fly. It seemed to get "overshadowed" by the B-25.

Look forward to seeing the B-26 come out.

SAAB JAS39C/D "Gripen" and potentially the Eurofighter EF2000 "Typhoon" if I find more time

Embraer E17X/19X Series for MSFS (FSX/P3D)

Finally firm project with necessary resources to start.

That would be the third isntance of these models for FSX (after Wilco and Virtualcol).
So to make these stand out from the rest, you guys might want to throw the new E2 E-Jets into the mix.

The E2 is a whole different beast. Different avionics, different FDE etc and the manufacturer has not gotten all the test flight data yet.

I believe there is sufficient product differentiation with 2017 visuals (and E175 new Winglet model that the US Regionals are flying now), shared cockpit, slightly higher than Aerosoft Airbus level of complexity.

Fair enough. If it won't come with the VAS/framerate impact of the AS Airbus, you may color me interested.

I can't wait. I've been waiting and waiting for a quality Ejets series.
