• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Image straightening

Ok....so here is my issue. I re-downloaded the newest images for my scenery project. The issue is that the images were taken at a slight angle causing a flat poly (for example the runway) not matching the Sat images. What would be an easy way to fix this (or am I screwed) Both GE images and Bing images are taken at this not quite birds eye perspective.

Yes you are pretty much screwed, however:

If you have a tool like ArcGIS, you'll be able to re-project images using points, add enough of them and the output should/will be straightened. For example, you could add points to match the end of the centreline on both ends of the runway, then add in further points in areas that are warped. ArcGIS is a payware tool though, QGis is a freeware tool but I'm not familiar with it - hands down though ArcGIS is worth the money!

You probably won't get an absolute PERFECT result but you could get it pretty damn close to being near perfect so it's work-able. You could then always edit the imagery in photoshop once you have the ground poly traced to rub out some surfaces that are warped/curved slightly where it should be straight.

Good Luck and have a lot of patience with it!

The other option is of course is to use a photo manipulation programme like gimp or Photoshop to correct lines and clone over areas where it needs some light doctoring. Its always very time consuming but its an issue we all have to be prepared to do as the over head shots are not perfect by any stretch

Thanks for the replies guys! What I have been trying to do is use FFD x2 roll-out and using the control points to drag and straighten out the image that way, but it has been very time consuming. So, I was wondering if there was an easier way.

Get familiar with Creative Cloud Photoshop - it has a lot of image perspective correction tools. I am not going anywhere near the 'monthly subscription' argument; suffice it to say, at less than $10 a month I find the package is well worth it.

Thanks for the tips guys! I redid the base poly and realized that when I plugged it into the convertor, I was using the wrong numbers so it was skewing the image in 3ds. Got it all sorted now.

So the source image was not warped in the first place???
