• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello guys how are you all?
I hope I can explain this so you understand?
I have GenX photo scenery installed in FSX.
There is an airport showing in genx which I would like to make operational,it is NOT a stock airport.
I have flattened the area using SBX.
I have taken a pic of the area in FSX.
I have taken a pic of the area from virtual earth via SBX as well.
Both these pix I can add to ADE via add image.

I add a runway and place it over the image runway, save, compile and add to my active FSX folder all with no problems.
HOWEVER when I go to the location in FSX the runway is nowhere near where it should be, I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Regards
Richard

How did you define (locate) and scale the position of the images in ADE?

Well you took a screenshot of FSX? Then you added that screenshot as a background image via the Add Image function?

First that image has to be placed in ADE's world at the correct place so that the image features are in the right place. ADE has a world like FSX. As you move the mouse around you can see the coordinates - this shows which bit of the world you are looking at in ADE.

You need to have the image correctly sized for ADE so whatever you put over it (runways etc) are placed in the same world position as they are in FSX.

So you would need to know the actual coordinates of the top left and bottom right corners of the screenshot you took in FSX. You can then put them into the Add Image dialog and ADE will correctly locate and size the image.

Thanks Jon, ok I understand.
However after entering the co ords and saving ADE "encounters a problem and needs to close"
Perhaps I'm not entering the co ords correctly.
I have done 54 53.11 and 3 12.78 for top left and 54 52.83 and 3 11.92 for btm right.
Have I done this right??
In the settings option I set co ords to decimal

No you are not entering the coordinates correctly

Decimal means decimal degrees so (if these are Latitude N and longitude W)

54 53.11 = 54.8851667
3 12.78 = -3.213
54 52.83 = 54.8805
3 11.92 = -3.198667

DDM means degress decimal minutes so

54 53.11 = N54 53.11
3 12.78 = W003 12.78
54 52.83 = N54 52.83
3 11.92 = W003 11.92

ADE does no know if you meant N or S for lat or E or W for lon. Unfortunately that bit of conde is none too friendly if you make a mistake - I need to fix it :o

Thanks Jon, I realised my mistake and am ok now on that.
Where do I go next, because I just added a runway and put it over the inage and it was still way out in FSX.
If I am in FSX at my location and want to use that as my image how do I get the co ords.
If I go to top down view I do not see how to get the co ords as it only shows the aircraft co ords.

By out how far out are you? I presume the runway is out when looked at in the sim? Do you have the dimensions and heading of the runway OK? If the size and heading of the runway are OK then check the location of the center of the runway in FSX and then use that to position the runway in ADE. In the Property Dialog for the runway there is an Edit button next to the coordinates. click that and you can edit the coords directly to place the runway. The reference point for a runway is at center of the runway.

If you can get the runway aligned correctly in FSX then you can 'nudge and size' the background image to correspond accurately

OK Jon have managed it although I'm not sure that I did it the correct way.
Still it works and thats the main thing.
