• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Import Approaches from BGL

Thanks Jon! Your answer yesterday just sent me deeper in the issue. I continued testing and investigating.

This is the result:

EDBC Magdeburg-Cochstedt is quite a unique destination in FSX. I' m talking about the Stock Airport here. Its RWY26 comes with the ILS 'ICOW', 108.75 installed to it. Funny enough, and that' s why I think Stock EDBC is quite unique, there is no approach added to it.

The AIP Germany offers three approaches. 1 ILS approach (naturally for RWY26), and 2 NDB approaches, one for RWY08 and the other for RWY26.

Please allow a short sidestep here. Few days ago Captain 7 released his Magdeburg-Cochstedt scenery. Without any approaches ...
He asked me if I could help him and I agreed.

I implemented the three approaches into my EDBC-ad4-file. As I usually do, I went the common way.
Open the Stock Airport, save it, adding the approaches, saving my work and finally compiling it.

Everything worked out perfectly.

My test flights confirmed that all three approaches are working!

Happy with the result, I wanted to import the completed approaches into the ad4-file which I got from Captain 7.

The obvious procedure - as far as I know - is opening that ad4-file, switching to 'Approach Mode', selecting 'Approaches' and 'Import from BGL'.

Thats what I did.

And I saved that ad4-file, double-checked if my approaches showed up and after looking at a positive result, I compiled this ad4-file for one more flight test.

No! I did not forget to delete the previously compiled bgl :) - just for you guys who followed the story precisely! So there was only one bgl with the implemented appoaches in my folders!

But this time my flight test failed. ATC didn' t offer the approaches any more.

And this is very likely the culprit:

I checked the lists in 'Approach Mode' as there are 'Approaches', 'Navaids' and 'Waypoints'. Everything fine - absolutely identical!

But I found two additional MARKERs in the list under 'Lists' > 'Navaids' in 'Airport Mode'.

They can' t be deleted. Neither from the list, nor directly in the panel.

Can anybody confirm that these two MARKERs kill my approaches?

Thank you for your attention!

The ILS 26 works fine for me with all 4 markers.

Duplicate markers do not cause a problem when located in the same place. Prokey will delete the extra markers.

Attached is your EDBC. I deleted the extra markers and added a ATIS for testing purposes. I use ATIS and listen to see if the runway is visual or a ILS.

Compile the attached file.
GO TO EDBC runaway 26. DO NOT use a saved flight file.
Select World ---> Weather ---> User Defined Customize and set winds to 270 at 8 kts.
Select the Settings ---> Display ---> Weather ----> Rate at which weather changes over time: Very High
From in the cockpit use zoom so you can see the wind sock to the right of runway 26. When the sock shows winds from 270
Select ATC window a listen to ATIS

My picture shows ATIS reporting that runway 26 is a ILS in clear weather (not a visual) and active

Flying the Baron on a IFR FP to EDBC shows ATC cleared me for the ILS Approach to runway 26

Delete the ATIS from the Comms menu in ADE, save and compile after testing.

Many thanks for the effort you put into this issue, Jim.

Remains one question though. Do you own a different ProKey? Why can you delete the double MARKERs and I can' t?

This is how I installed the ProKey:

Jim may have removed them using the Raw Data View function which is available via te ProKey. There is only one type of ProKey :)

Jon is correct.

I used the Raw Data View in the Tools menu. Select RDV and then click on the triangle symbol to expand the data

When you expand the data the 1st set of markers you see are the default

Go all the way to the bottom of the data and you will see the duplicate markers. Select each one and then click the Delete box. There is no undo in the RDV so be careful you are deleting the correct data.

Good idea to expose that, Jim. To be frank, I didn' t make use of RDV too often up to now. Many thanks again - also to you, Jon!
