• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Importing coordinates from KML / CSV / XLS into XML

Hi,

I am now planning to place a massive amount of objects with SODE (ambient animated wind turbines), and I have now created a map of all of them in google maps, so I have a list of coordinates in KML (or CSV or XLS, since it's easy to convert it into these).
Is there a tool or way to batch transfer all the coordinates for more than 2500 objects into a SODE-ready XML file?

I know all the parameters and lines I should write in the XML to make them ambient-animated, but copy-pasting all of it by hand would take years :)

Ok, I managed to do it with some Excel wizardry. Now I have a 2+ MB xml file with 2500+ objects. All seem fine, no errors, it loads into SODE placer, but when I load up the sim the wind turbines do not show up.
When I only put some of the same objects in a separate xml it worked. Can be that there is an upper limit of objects / xml?

Update: I checked the log now, when I get to an area where there are a lot of objects I get the error message that there are too many environmental data probes (64+). I guess then I have to reduce their number, however I would like to have one individual probe for each turbine, since that determines the wind speed and direction for them. I try to put in one probe / turbine farm then.
An other error I get is "No unique Model determined to display". Does this mean that I have to give an individual name for each and every simobjects? Probes and turbines as well? I have a small test file with more objects going under the same name and they show up so I'm a bit confused...

Update: I think I solved the problems. The names have to be indeed unique, that I corrected. Now when I'm at an area where there are no more than 64 data probes, the turbines show up nicely and work as they should. But as soon as I'm at an area where there are much more, SODE stops working. Now I just have to reduce the number of probes and all will be good.

Nice project! SODE is such a powerful program. Where are these turbines located?
