• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Importing FSX aircraft to use as static objects in MSFS?

I had messaged Ron Zambrano (Razbam) for permission to use his A-7 series models to create static aircraft for MSFS. He gave me the "go ahead", and one of the members on Flightsim.to converted it for me.I found several tutorials on YouTube about importing aircraft from FSX into MSFS, but haven't located videos that specifically mention simply converting FSX to static aircraft for MSFS. I do know that Model Converter X (and I believe the Legacy Converter tool) are used to accomplish the task, but so far I have not grasped how to do it.Then I wondered if the SAMM (Static Aircraft Model Maker) tool would somehow be useful in this regard? I know it was made for FSX & P3D, but wondered if the "end product" of using that tool could THEN be converted somehow and THEN be imported into MSFS.If I can learn how to do this (major feat for me at least), then I would learn how to actually import them into MSFS sceneries and populate empty flightlines. A friend of mine on Discord has agreed to take on the job of recreating NAS Cecil Field (KVQQ) for MSFS. With the conversion of Razbam's A-7Es to static objects for almost all of Cecil Field SLUF squadron's, the flight line will look awesome! I have wanted this base scenery done again, ever since John Stinstrom did his version for FSX so long ago.I have provided all the info on Cecil that I could glean from the internet (sites such as the Ghost Bases), plus Facebook groups and memorabilia that I have saved from my time there. Really am looking forward to this. NC

Conversion is doable but pretty tedious imo. I think it's easier to start from "scratch," as in using a freeware model and then just patching in components of MSFS parts to make the aircraft presentable taxiing around. I say this because animations, for example, won't convert across. They might, but Arno has a hard block on them in MCX and that's the only built up tool that will do it, so presumably you could just use the different softwares MCX calls, do the same thing yourself - or -start over with an static model and Asobo parts.
So you could take the default Hornet from acceleration, use MCX to remove all the bits you won't see or need and then study the MSFS SDK on how to make an aircraft. You could research my posts, I made a pretty extensive instructional thread about converting static models to AI aircraft. The black J-20 below is composed using a model I purchased on Sketchfab and the MSFS default Hornet landing gear, fully animated of course. I've made 4 of these or so, three you can chase around in my South China Sea scenery, available at flightsim.to and one I'll give you, an EF-18 Growler, if you end up making NAS Whidbey Island KNUW for MSFS.

At least for now, my only goal is to convert a S-3 Viking model to use as static in MSFS. I was hoping to use Dino's S-3, couldn't get approval. So next choice may be a earlier model. Not sure if Kazourni Ito did one. I believe Mark Rooks did. Animations not needed. The main reason I had hoped to use Dino's is because there are a lot of paints for it.

Static aircraft can be cranked out with MCX, just cycle the animations to the parking positions and freeze (fix) them. You'll have to change texture formats, set up the right file structure, MCX can do it all but it's not automatic. Again the SDK helps and there's a lot of posts here about it. As far as static models, there's the freeware Iris one and there's one at the Trimble Warehouse that's ok.

I have done this exact same thing.
Firstly I used MSX to 'extract' the model when I then imported into BLENDER when I 'cleaned' up the model by removing animations, and also used the modifier 'decimate' to reduce the number of faces/triangles etc.

If you haven't already have a look at this video although I believe it describes how to make a flyable versions not a staric version which isn't a lot different.

Also have a look at this video

Trying to get MCX to import then export to FSX Mdl in preparation to convert to MSFS.
I'm getting error messages in MCX Re DirectX 9 etc. see my other post.
Any help would be appreciated.
