• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Improved validation

With the new filter syntax I introduced about a month ago, I did also see an increase in error reports due to issues with the filter syntax. Most of the time these errors where caused by user input (sorry to say this), for example because in the filter it was tested if a string is bigger than an integer or because the filter only listed a variable name but without a condition.

I have now improved the validation, so that these errors will also be reported while you type your script. To be able to do this I had to implement a “quick attribute scan” feature that will check your source data for the types of the attributes. Since this involves opening your geo data files I decided to schedule this check a bit less frequent than the normal validation, else the performance would probably be hurt too much. So it could take a few seconds before all errors related to the filter appear.

Hopefully these changes help you to write the correct filter syntax more easily. And hopefully it also reduces the amount of errors being reported.

Oh, and please make sure to download the full version, not the update version. I have made some changes to the gdal data files as well. And these are not included in the update version.

Not at the moment, but I also notice that this feature sometimes gives little hickups while typing in the GUI, so it's something I need to look into.
