• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all,
First post here with hopefully many more to come! I used X-Plane many years ago and dabbled in designing aircraft but never really finished any. I have now got into MSFS, designing both aircraft and scenery/airports.
My question is: how do I transition from average, freeware level packages to fantastic payware level packages like I see on here. I would love to hear your tips and tricks on increasing realism and quality of the work you produce.

You already have the answer

How do you tell a payware package Is Better than a free One?

That Is what you Need to improve

To sum up:
Details, details, details
Better Modelling
Better texturing (with High resolution pbr custom textures, plus Custom art made in substance painter)
Models and texture variations,
Precise adeherence to reality (want to model an airport? Go there, take tons on pictures, videos, try to get the feeling
Animations!!

There's plenty of payware out there that's inferior to the freeware being made.

What stands out to me is time and effort rather than intricate skills, but obviously they're great too.

You see some really beautifully modelled buildings but they're plonked down in completely unmodified terrain so they look ridiculous. I'd rather have a less fancy model and the whole area around it, roads, vegetation, details, worked on to match it.

Asobo's own POIs seem to be happy to do this when a extra few minutes would make a big difference.

Ditto: i.e. First post here also; Plus I used X-Plane many years (as well as MSFS (95 to FSX); [and I've also] dabbled in designing aircraft (for my own amusement).

Good luck for your future projects.
