FS2004 Internal objects in buildings

I've designed a glass fronted building in FSDS3 and I want to add a desk to the reception area. I've used a texture with an alpha channel to make the tinted glass windows where the desk will be. However when I add the desk it disappears, which is I guess is due to the alpha channel making it invisible?

I've seen it done in other sceneries, but how can I add internal objects?

TIA

John

Hi John,

Sounds like you have a drawing order problem. I guess that if you move into the building you will see your desk again.

The easiest way to solve this is probably to make sure that the name of the desk texture is alphabetically before the name of the glass. That way MakeMDL should sort the objects correctly.

I note that the last object created always have the visual priority. So, to give the higher order to an object, I simply cut and paste it (in the same place)!

Hi,

Ah, for FSDS that could very well be the case. I just remember that the optimize settign is not on by default when using MakeMDL, so then the materials are probably not sorted as I mentioned before.

So what you are saying JPfil, is that too make the table visable throught the window, he needs to copy, cut and paste the table back into the same position which would then make the table now the last object in the draw order????

Is that correct.

FSDS sorts the parts by the order in which they were created, last part created gets first priority. However FSDS will LIST the parts in alphabetical order with their corresponding part number next to the part name in ( ). Can be confusing at times.
