• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Is it possible to make the sounds louder in the salon, and quieter in the cabin?

Hello again!

In the progress of my work, I would like to make the engine sounds louder in the salon, and quieter in the cabin.
Why - in order to not have the necessity for changes in the sound settings in FS itself, or edit the files themselves to higher or lower volume.

Is it possible in FS? How can I do it?

To my knowledge, I don't think this is possible. Unfortunately I believe that sound cones in FSX can only be utilized in exterior sounds, but then again, I've never actually tried it on an interior. You can try copying the sound cone lines from a default aircraft's sound.CFG file and see if it works. If so, you may be able to direct the cones in a way that lowers the volume when viewing from in the cabin.

This is, evidently a big secret, and I planned on keeping it to myself for a little longer, but that'd be unfair to you:

The 3D sound engine works fine inside. I used it on the aborted (I think? I haven't kept track of a lot of things since I left FS) FSX version of the Dreamfleet 727 to cause the engine sounds to decay towards the cockpit. Be advised that you are working on a very small scale inside of the airplane, and small changes will have big effects. The full scale distance setting will be your primary asset here. The cones will be great for directional sounds, but the volume decay will be controlled by the full scale distance.

Perhaps the word "salon" here is intended for the passenger cabin as I have read a few threads on avsim russia where this was used in translation.

The video below shows that sound volume is louder closer to the engines, as you move forward towards the front cabin, engine sound becomes less and less audible.
This based on this British HS121 Trident with 3 rear mounted engines.
