Is W11 run FS2004 ?

I've been asked this question but as I have W7 I have no idea about 11 & would appreciate your advice.........

Good morrow GGB,

I have this just in:

'Sadly, Microsoft has stopped selling Windows 7 and modern hardware has no Windows 7 support natively available, so our hardware would be nonfunctioning on this operating system, it is a huge shame.'

Does this makes sense ? They will fit W10 or 11 but I do have 7 on disc.........

Bon jour......I put Golden Wings into a friend's laptop he said was a gaming machine. Having installed it I found it wasn't. It had W10. I gathered from flightsim.com that 10 has niggles & then learn 11 would be better.

Said friend is now willing to spend on a simming machine & I suggested Pcspecialists. They only do 10 or 11 so it will be 11.
I have 7 which runs very well......the new machine won't update with 7 they say, & wouldn't install 7, so it looks like 11.

Is there specific proprietary hardware (ex: FS peripherals such as yokes, rudders, intrument panels etc.) which you plan to utilize with Windows 11, for which you are concerned about compatibility, ongoing availability of software drivers etc. ?


Most (but not all) hardware is now supplied with generic drivers by Microsoft during installation of newer versions of Windows even after manufacturers quit supporting "name-branded" drivers for hardware devices beyond older numeric versions of Windows.

Thus, I suggest that it may be 'safe' to let the computer builder complete the new system by installing a licensed copy of Win-11, then adapt it as needed.


AFAIK, Win-11 thus far, is little more than a change of GUI configuration from what Win-10 already provides.


PS: I always use the successor to Classic Shell now known as Open Shell in the original "Windows Classic" GUI "theme" style of RTM Windows 95 / Windows NT Server in conjunction with WinAero Tweaker anyway, so these GUI changes will never impact my computers (if I can help it).

He plans to use a stick like I do, otherwise it's W11 & my GW3..........that was a trifle wonky in 10 so it'll be 11 now.
He wants to fly my Beaulieu at a local show, like I did with my Ibsley at the yearly Ibsley event, via a projector onto a large screen.

Hi Terry:

IIUC, there should be no problem installing FS2004 configured for use with Golden Wings 3, then running FS9 in GW3 mode with a USB joystick in Win-11.

As with all Windows versions since XP, it is best to install FS9 somewhere outside the Program Files (x86) folder chain (ex: a FS2004 sub-folder chain on C:\).

I have 3 machines with GW3 in their own hard drives, which is what I've recommended to Marc for his new machine.
Fingers crossed, however............!!
