• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Island creation

Hello All, Running Fs9 + XP.--- Using Google Earth, I am able to obtain the coordonates of a small island that does not show in the FS9 map.I'd like to be able to create it and grow sceneries ( building +trees). The actual island has a cove receiving amphibian aircrafts. Using FSSC, I drew a polygon shaped like the island, at zero altitude. Next I'd like to flatten, solidify the area and possibly start building the sceneries. I assume this to be the correct approach. I am open to all suggestions, in term of techniques and application softwares. I don't expect to recreate a visible island in the map, but all facilities will appear.
Thank you

I have never done this but have experience in terrain and photoreal mapping. Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You have several routes... but the simplest would be to consult SDK and start creating a landclass in that area using resample.exe and the INF file.

From there, you'd need to create coastline file that will obviously define how far water will rerach.

Then - if you have topography (altitudemap), you can create that as well using resample.exe. It's all in SDK documentation, including examples.

Topography hint: You could use PhotoShop CS3 to draw your altitude map and save it in RAW mode, 16bit LSB integer data. Then you can use that directly with resample.exe to build your terrain.
