• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

MCX Issue with object export (v1.6)

Hello,

I have updated MCX to version 1.6

I am trying to extract an object from a .bgl file. With MCX version 1.5, no issues in exporting the object, but with MCX version 1.6, I get many error messages "vertex list has mix of single UV mapped and double IV mapped vertices!" and the export file is empty.

I am not sure what is going on. Any idea? Thanks.
 
Are you using a different XtoMdl version maybe? P3D can give this error when you have parts with a secondary UV channel and without such a channel.

It can also be because 1.5 is so old that it did not support the secondary UV channel.

Did you add these channels one purpose? You can also try to remove them in the hierarchy editor.

As far as I know, it is the same XtoMDL version. All I did is install MCX 1.6, nothing else. I am not too familiar with XtoMDL....

I did not add UV channels (I am also not familiar with what UV channels are).

In the object hierarchy editor, on the right side list, it does say "has 2nd UV channel- true" but I can't seem to be able to change it to another value.

All I am doing is trying to use MCX 1.6 out of the box the same way as I was using 1.5

You might want to try the development release (version 1.7), I have worked on preventing this error a while ago.
 
Thanks Arno, I will try the development release 1.7.
My main motivation to update MCX is to get the object placement editor footprint feature (which does not seem to be in v. 1.6).
Worst case scenario, I will stick to 1.5, which works mostly fine for what I am doing with it.

I have tried the development release.

This is what I am trying to do (maybe I was no clear on my initial post). I am trying to extract models from MSFS sceneries to use in P3D v5 for personal use. It has worked out great for some sceneries.

However, I am having this issue for others.
So.... this is what I did with the latest MCX. I started the Export Object (P3D v4.4 MDL Object) as I used to and got the warning again "vertex list has mix of single UV mapped and double IV mapped vertices!" and the export file is empty. In the object hierarchy editor, I can now click on Model Part, right click and select Remove UV2. Them, I try to export the object and I no longer get the error message about UV vertices..... Great!
However, when reimporting the object into MCX to visualize it (and then export as scenery) the model/object textures are all over the place and the object no longer looks the same. For example, the roof can have a different colour, etc....the object is not really usable as it does not look as originally designed.

Are you aware of such a problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Hi,

It sounds like those parts that are messed up did actually use the secondary UV channel in that case. When I looked at this issue in the past I could not find another way to prevent this warning than removing the secondary UV channel.

You might want to check if all your parts have two UV channels. Maybe if you find a part that has only one UV channel, adding a second UV channel to that one can also fix the warning.
