• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm using FSDSv3 and have come to the point of making the VC cockpit. For some reason my joystick (lever_stick_l_r and lever_stick_fore_aft) won't work in spite of many attempts of following the FSDS guide which appears to be the same as the FS9 instructions. Is there an alternative procedure not mentioned in the Abacus Help?

Two sticks remain visible in FSDS and in the sim, however in my latest attempt the l_r stick is over to the left in neutral and the fore-aft isn't showing at all in the sim. I'm setting the keyframes and following the instructions from V3.5 Help.

Hi
You need a non animated parent part at the top of the hierarchy.Ill go through the steps(this is for fsds3.5 and FSX compiled model only)

Make your stick 3d model call it lever_stick_l_r

move its axis to it pivot point

part tab then reset axis rotation (just to be sure )

copy the lever_stick_l_r part then paste

this part delete all but 1 polly and call this part Parent_stick and check the hierarchy node box

paste again (so you have another copy of lever_stick_l_r)

name it lever_stick_fore_aft and make its Parent Part is Parent_stick, delete all but 1 polly

go back to the lever_stick_l_r part and make its Parent Part
lever_stick_fore_aft

now animate the lever_stick_fore_aft then the lever_stick_l_r
parts as normal

cheers

Thanks wozza, the stick is now visible and animated in FS. It functions perfectly fore and aft but is still over to the left in 'neutral', the left-right animation starts from that point. I've double checked the axis and the hierarchy. In VC part mode the stick is over to the left, is that correct?

Hi
when animating dont use kf 0 use kf1 as your first keyframe.
so 0kf(no keyframe set) stick in its center position with its axis at 0.0.0,kf1 full left deflection keyframe set,kf 100 full right deflection keyframe set
this will keep every thing centered when the aircraft is drawn in fsx and when working in fsds. Also if you dont have a keyframe 50 at the sticks center point, you have to make sure that the full deflection left is an identical angle to the full deflection right, as fsx will calc the center position from these angles,(so 25deg left 20deg right will give you a 2.5 deg left lean) if you have a kf 50 set for the center position then it wont matter what the left right angle is

Hi Wozza - well I gave that a try and got 'Error creating file' then 'C:\program files(x86)\abacus\fsds_v3.5\temp.x was not found'. After that the model wouldn't compile again, even after deleting animation and then the VC model completely, so I've gone to my backup which compiles OK.

So, I'll start again - should the 'fore-aft' stick have been animated using the kf1 instead of kf0 before I attempted the 'l_r'? The animation was good except for the left leaning stick.

Hi Froggy
I start all animations at kf 1 dont think it really maters though,I just find it easier to work that way in fsds.
With the error in fsds sometimes it gets messed up, I find going to the fsds root folder and deleting all the file starting with a _ and restarting fsds helps.
Cheers

Thanks Wozza, where did did you gain the knowledge, it's certainly not from the Abacus 'Help' files.

Hi
Np glad its sorted ;)
I was one of the beta testers, but to be honest Rick Piper spent a quite a few days on line with me to get me up to speed on the fsx side of things( I just didnt get it :) )
The help files in conjunction with fsx example models and Adam's (of abacus) blog will get you most of the way, then its how its always been ask questions in the forums.
Wait till you get to the fsdstweak time of the model :D that will account for a few hairs lost lol
