• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Arno,

I'm finding I'm running into a bottleneck on the SPLITGRID part of the process. It only has 1 thread running at the moment. I'm wondering if it's technically possible for that process to become multi-threaded/multi-core enabled?

As you know I'm doing a lot of work that is pushing scenproc to the edge of the envelope. I have some ideas though on how I can get around it for now. ;) I'll have to test my theory though.

been using 8 cores and 60+ GB RAM, still have lots of overhead. CPU was running at 12.5% (i.e. 1 of 8 cores @100%), RAM usage never exceeded 5GB
 
split the job into 4 and open scenProc interface for each (mumbling to myself... you lucky ba$$tar...) ;)

The SPLITGRID step does use multiple threads already. I can get all my four cores maxed out here. But the load is not constant.

How the .NET multi threading foreach loop that I use works is that it starts a number of threads to process different features. Only once all these threads have finished it will start the next bunch. If I remember correctly 64 threads are started each time. So near the end it might be that only a few threads are still running, but they need to finish before the next bunch starts that will give you 100% CPU again.
