• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have just read thread on this by G man.I am using FSX,I make a folder SAMM Aircraft in Addon scenery and put scenery and texture folders inside it.I then go to FSX Scenery library, clik Add area, clik Addon scenery, clik SAMM Aircraft, and get scenery and texture folders.Clicking OK or the empty space does nothing and SAMM Aircraft does not appear in Scenery Library list.

Colltip, I have no idea what thread by Gman you are referring to.

Since you are adding SAMM Aircraft folder to your Scenery Library manually, this sounds like a problem in FSX - or finger-trouble, not SAMM software. There is nothing unique about scenery and texture folders containing SAMM-generated models - other than the texture folder configuration, of course. But that would not have any impact on your ability to make a Scenery Library entry.

Did you put any .bgl files in the \scenery folder? If not, I don't think FSX will allow that Scenery Library entry to be enabled - or perhaps even created.

The thread was a step by step guide to installing a scenery library for someone with similar problems to mine. You may have put your finger on my particular query,as I have not managed to create any aircraft bgl files yet,so I was jumping the gun a bit by seeing if I could create a library folder which Instant scenery would recognise. The folder is empty as yet.I have downloaded 2.2.00 and the manual shows a screen with a Create Static Model box.But when I start SAMM that box is not there. The form is headed 2.1.06.I fill in theAircraft Folder and Select Aircraft Title boxes. Then the only box not greyed out is Make Library, which I clik, but I have not been able to find any end product.

Can I refer you to this.reply I got from Instant scenery:-I have somehow waffled my way to creating a library that has an aircraft model in it,and which shows in the library list. The aircraft shows on my FSX,but when I position it on an airfield and clik on Add to Instant scenery.bgl,it says....the library you selected only works in a specific area, you are trying to place an object outside that area...I am unaware that I put any restriction on the libraries`use.I have tried combinations of ....use following libraries....in the options menu but still get the message. .......This means you do not have a "pure" library (one that just contains aircraft models without placing them somewhere). Instead, you have a "placement file" which contains both the model and actually places it in the scenery somewhere. Such files are indeed geographically restricted (even if you don't ask for it explicitly). There is no way to override it.

You need to find a way to generate a library with SAMM that does not contain any specific coordinates for the object. You should ask the author of SAMM about it (or maybe post a question at fsdeveloper.com). I don't know how to do it - SAMM is not our product.
That is my post and their reply.

A library of scenery objects typically does not contain any positional information. The library contains only the models to be placed. The placement, via XML, is a separate operation.

Of course, it is possible to combine both in the same file. While such a file is handled by FlightSim, it is no longer classified as a library and is unlikely to be handled properly by any scenery placement tool. (I'm surprised your response from Instant scenery didn't mention this.)

Libraries created by SAMM's library creation facility do not contain any positional information - at least they should not. If they do, please send me a sample.

This is the Library in question.I do not know how to send it as a file, but I will show what I see when I browse to the library..FSX\Addon scenery\SAMM_Aircraft\Scenery and texture. In scenery is....FCS Hawker Typhoon 1b with rockets.BGL,SAMM-Aircraft.bgl and SAMM-Aircraft.When I open SAMM-Aircraft,I see.....D1F13F6C-2255-441D-81C2-2245797864CD FCS Hawker Typhoon 1b with Rockets. When I open texture I see...FCS Hawker Typhoon 1b with rockets and FCS Hawker Typhoon 1b with rockets; All and Textures_SAMM;All.When in Instant scenery I open this Library, I see the Typhoon and can position it on the airfield, but get the error message when I try to plant it.I am only guessing that I create the model and the library properly using the SAMM main page.

I typed the scenery and texture words into the SAMM library. It didn't produce them automatically.

I don't know what you are trying to tell me. You don't type anything into a SAMM library.

You say you are using SAMM 2.2. But you refer to a procedure drafted by someone else that almost certainly refers to SAMM 1.6. The SAMM 2.2 user manual describes the procedure for creating a library with SAMM 2.2.

SAMM 2.2 contains a new feature that, unfortunately, complicates the library creation process. It's also beta-quality software. I suggest you revert to SAMM 1.6 - the latest generally released version. You can download it from my website, http://stuff4fs.com. Navigate to the SAMM page and click on the Latest General Release menu item.

When you first run this software, you may get an "update available" message. Download and install the update. Then the third-party procedure you are using may work.

I removed SAMM from my computer. Then went to stuff4FS but could not find a version 1.6.I downloaded 2.1.06 which is what I had before. If I fill in the aircraft details on the main page, and if the Save mdl and Save bgl boxes are active,do I clik one or both of them or neither. If I clik on Make library, where does it save it?

You got the right version. Incidentally you stated in an earlier post that you had 2.2.00

If I fill in the aircraft details on the main page, and if the Save mdl and Save bgl boxes are active,do I clik one or both of them or neither
You've got to save the model before you can make a .bgl file including it. The sequence is clear in the User manual

If I clik on Make library, where does it save it?
Pages 13 and 14 of the User manual deals with making libraries and discusses the various save options.

The problem(apart from me) is that the manual in the 2.1.06 folder is titled 2.2.00,and the images, such as the main page, are different to the ones that appear when I open SAMM.

Yes, that is a mistake on my part, which I'll rectify. In the meantime, if you go back to my website and click on User Manual on the menu on the SAMM page, you'll get the correct one.

Thanks. That is better, but I have still not managed to plant an aircraft any where.I have switched to another W7 computer and have managed to plant one aircraft,a Stearman. My computers seem to have a fixation with this aircraft. When I clik on Select Aircraft Folder ,I get a C:,and if I try to expand it I get access denied message.I get the privaleges sorted(have to do it every time) and then I can expand the C:.I clik on the airplane folder, but instead of opening a list of all the aircraft,it goes back to SAMM main page and puts a Stearman in the Aircraft Title Box.I can then plant this aircraft, but am unable to access any different ones.

When you read the user manual, you must have missed the part about requiring Administrator priviliges.

The only reason SAMM would automatically select the Stearman when you attempted to expand "the airplane" folder" is if the Stearman is the only valid aircraft in that folder.

Presumably, you had the FSX radiobutton checked and by "the airplane folder" you mean "SimObjects". How many aircraft does FSX "see".

No, I did note the privileges bit in the manual.Should I have to go through the routine every time I start the program? There are loads of aircraft in the Airplanes folder,in addition to the default ones.Any how,I have gone back to my main computer ,started from scratch, and lo and behold,I have planted five aircraft using IS3!I am keeping my fingers crossed.I must commend you on your patience and support.Thanks.
