• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Light creation methods?

I am in the middle of lighting my airport. I'm sticking to only working on one runway right now while I test out different kinds of lights and effects, but I am consistently running into various issues.

So far I am using BGL lights for the runway, as well as the light splash on the ground, and have also been trying it with the approach lights. They look great from afar, but up close it just looks like a giant glowing blob, and moreover, in IFR condtions, the planes look like solid white squares when viewed against thick fog. Over 1 mile visibility and they take up too few pixels to be apparent, but less than 1 mile visibility and it is quite obvious. Plus, I can't animate them to make strobes (unless there's a way to do it that doesn't involve moving the light underground every few keyframes. Doing this causes the keyframe interpolation to show up when the framerate isn't exactly 40 FPS, so you can see the object moving between positions). I tried using effects for strobes, however for some odd reason they are offset from where they should be when they are displayed in the sim, and I don't know how to make it so that you only see them from certain angles.

I have considered reverting to the ADE lights for the runway/approach lighting, but this is both too restrictive (in terms of customization) and more importantly, in P3D this works fine, however in FSX the lights will get drawn behind the ground poly. Not to mention, they won't line up with my light posts.

With that said, what methods do you recommend?
