• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Limit

Hi Arno,

I've been creating a hanger with Animated Doors and 5 lod models, its quite a detailed hanger!!.

I wondered if there is a limit on the mdl size when using cat.

If I export the whole model, use cat to add the door control frequency, then complie the BGL, the final size of the BGL is 311kb, now if I run FS select my airport and click fly, it crashes at the loading bar at 0%.

If I try the same model but dont use CAT it works ok.

or

If I use CAT but make the final BGL below 290kb's by leaving out parts when exporting it also works fine. I havent found any particular part of the model that could causes it, I've left out random parts of the model.

I havent pinpointed the exact size of the BGL where it crosses the 'I dont want to work mode' but its somewhere between 290 & 300kb.

Hope that makes sense

Stevo ;)

Hi Stevo,

It is not the MDL size. I tested it with Nick some time ago and then we had a limit of around 1.5 MB. By now I am convinced it is not the size, but how complex your model is. Not sure which sections really cause the problems, but I guess some jumps are too big after editing with CAT.

Hi,

I have my Hanger built, still cant go above 290kb and use CAT, but anyway I got round that by reducing some detail.

But what I wanted to do next was use this one model a number of times in the same scenery. So I only need one frequency and one model

I added a bounding box, so if I was to open one hanger the other hangers in the scenery would stay close, and a frequency, then gave it a test, one model worked great. But if I add more than one model the animation won't work anymore.

Could this be because the animation is waiting for the other bounding boxes to be activated?

If this is the cause, is there any other way I can use one frequency, but keep the other hangers closed while using the same frequency.

Thanks

Stevo ;)

That should work fine. For each model the state should be stored seperately (that was one of the reason to use local variable space). But I must say I never tried to place multiple copies of the same object in a scene (I only tested with multiple CATed objects). So maybe the object library is doing something weird here. Let me test that.

Hi Stevo,

Bit late reply, but today when testing a problem with CAT and suddenly remembered this post. I can now reproduce your problem, there seems to be a problem with the animation condition if you have placed multiple copies of the object. I am going to investigate this further and let you know when I have found more.

Hi Arno

Thanks for coming back to this post, even I'd forgot about it

I'll look forward to seeing what you find.

Stevo ;)

Fixed in version 1.02. Or maybe I should say not really fixed, but I have added an option that solves it :D.
