• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

linked animations

hello,

i'm having a problem animating something that has been linked in a tree in 3ds max 2008:

when i rotate the part, it scales out, and totally deforms.

if requested i can make images of it.

my question is, how do i add a rotation animation to a linked object without that it scales?

thanks in advance,

wout

For starters - on all the parts involved, reset the scale and transformstions (*should be under the hierarchy tab*) before redoing the aniumations and linking.

What's needed is a pivot point realignment, or attaching intermediary nodes so the linked parts have the pivot points aligned with the axis of rotation, the farther the childs pivot is from the animated parent the more there is deformation and warping.
As Felix mentioned scale is important , now more than ever its critical that parts carry a clean bill of health , scale problems do cause some peculiar effects in FSX, there is a sure cure , after the mesh is formed and sized reset its transform , or create the standard primative by the keyboard entry method , preferably both .
Testing parts for scale is easy using track view selected and looking at the scale entry where 100.100.100 is what it should read for the XYZ , if there is any other figure you should have a good reason because FSX uses this scale to determine the size of the bounding box and not that of the geometry onscreen in Max/Gmax.
