• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation

Trying out substance painter.
Trying to get some detail in here.

Tiny update.
Front gear is completely re-animated now being more consistent.
Front gear doors are also modeled and animated.
Applied a new temporary livery (mostly for myself :P)

Last update of the year.
Worked on the FE station.
Still so much to do but I'll get there at some point :D

I guess one more small update :D
How do you guys deal with perfectionism?
I feel it creeping in again which stranded lots of my previous projects :P

No true update on the L-1049, but what do you guys think of the overall fuselage shape?

I noticed in photo's that the L-1049 variants have a straight bit of fuselage in the middle caused by the fuselage stretch they did to the L-049 to make a L-1049 prototype (look at the prototype photos, it has a 049 nose section as they actually converted a 049 to 1049).
I tried to replicate what I saw in the photos

But also what do you think of the overall shape seen from the side?
Accurate or not?
Please point out things that are wrong so I can fix them :)

Great modeling work. Have you tried to place a side image of the Connie behind your model to check shaping? Its looking nice to me.

I modeled it like that actually.
I rarely use blueprints and mostly model from pictures.
Basically I only use blueprints for the general dimensions, unless the blueprint is really really good.

I am still working on this thing.
I changed the way the exhaust stacks face, so that the right of the plane (seen from the nose) has the 2 exhaust pipes and the left 1.

I am now trying something new for my own sanity though and that is sectioning the aircraft development.
My primary focus first from now on will be the nose gear and bay.
Then if finished with that, I'll give myself a choice, focus on the external front of the fuselage as a secondary goal, or move to the main gear.

I'll see how that works.

Also I have a wonderful C-121C maintenance handbook in PDF giving me the ability to see how everything works in detail, and be able to model things pictures simply don't show.

The question is... whether this will actually fly in MSFS though.
This project is very intense for a MSFS project, especially for someone who has no coding skills, no high detail texturing skills and never having had anything loaded in MSFS itself.
Most of my skills are in the modeling itself.
And due to the freeware nature of this project, I cannot hire other people to help along.

So we'll see how this ends up.
I know my reputation so far is.... "announces project > shows progress > silence"
Though to be fair, this project has been on going longer than others I think?
And this time I have a real desperate need for a good L1049 for MSFS (2024).
I never had the same drive for the Fokker 130 I used to develop.

Hope you all have a good day and I hope to show some real progress soon.

Hey, I think we have the same reputation... haha well except for my KHMT project. I just need to learn to keep my mouth shut and not announce projects early. Developer time definitely is the first to go when your family grows.

Anyways nice work on this one!
