I have recently bought a new computer which is running Windows 11 Home Edition, Version 22H2, OS Build 22621.2715.
I have been re-installing my flight sim ‘stuff’ and unfortunately I have encountered a problem with the AFLT program. When I open AFLT I am presented with the following error message:
“Airfield Lights Toolbox (4.5.3.5) – Project: xxxx
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Could not load file or assembly ‘LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll’ or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found.”
And three boxes -“Details” “Continue” and “Quit”
Clicking on the “Continue” box does allow me access to my projects where it ‘seems’ that I can carry out the required lighting design. In addition, I am allowed to ‘Save Placement Data’ and a check in the AFLT\Projects folder confirms that the ‘Lights’ folder and the ‘Placements.xml’, ‘Project.ini’ and ‘StockData.xml’ files are all present.
I can even compile the project and a check of the ‘C:\Users\myname\Documents Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\AFLT for P3D’ folder indicates that the ‘design’ files are present in the relevant folders together with the standard AFLT files, i.e. add-on.xml, AFLT (SimObjects).exe and LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll
However upon navigating to the project airport in Prepar3D v5 the lighting base models are displayed but there are no lights visible. Also, the minimized ‘AFLT (SimObjects) - Version 4.0…’ dialog box is not displayed in the task bar as described in the AFLT manual.
I had exactly the same problem back in May 2020 when I was running Windows 10 on my old PC and corresponded directly with Don Grovestine for some 7 weeks; unfortunately without any solution being found. The email exchange culminated in me accepting that, for some reason both ‘AFLT’ and ‘AFLT for P3D’ were not going to work on my computer until a solution to the unhandled exception report, “unable to load assembly LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll” problem, had been found.
However, approximately 14 days after my ‘acceptance’ email to Don, and without me having found a solution to the LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll problem or downloading any AFLT updates from Don, both AFLT and AFLT for P3D mysteriously started to work as advertised; i.e. I could open AFLT without receiving the dreaded LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll error message and AFLT connected to Prepar3D with the aircraft symbol showing on the AFLT Display Area. Also, when in the Sim at my ‘designed’ airports, the AFLT for P3D lights were visible in all their glory. AFLT and AFLT for P3D have both continued to work flawlessly until my computer upgrade!
I have searched this forum regarding my problem but unfortunately the only reference I could find was back in August 2021, posted by pelus05, who seemed to have experienced exactly the same problem. I have carried out Gadgets (Don Grovestine) suggestion of copying the ‘Microsoft.FlightSimulator.Simconnect.dll’ to (in my case) my Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons\AFLT for P3D folder. The other suggestion by Gadgets, to place the ‘Microsoft.FlightSimulator.Simconnect.dll’ into the AFLT folder; was not necessary as it was, by default, already in that folder. However, like pelus05, neither of these suggestions solved the problem.
Unfortunately the exchanges between Gadgets and pelus05 finished without a solution being posted so I don’t know if pelus05 ever resolved his problem! If he still reads the forum post his comments would be most appreciated.
I really miss the AFLT lights and therefore I would be extremely grateful if any FlightSim/computer techies out there could offer their expert advice on how to overcome this problem please?
Sorry to waffle on but hopefully the detailed information supplied will result in a solution being found.
Thanks in anticipation.
