• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

LOD with FSDS

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if it is possible to add LOD to scenery items in FSDS?
After working with FS Architect, it is possible to enter a distance from which a scenery item is viewable, ie: 1,2,3, 5miles etc, and that item will not pop into view until you are that distance from it.
I was wondering if a similar comand is possible in fsds.
Thanks in advance,
Andy.:)

Yes, and it's much simpler

Create a new "model" (Model->Manage Models), and in the dialog box, *give it the correct name*, and tag it as a "level of detail" model.

Note that the NAME is important since, as I understand it, the LODs are "spaced" by the name (LOD_100, LOD_50, etc) rather than, as before (FS2002 and before?) withi specific distance values.

(Caveat: I practically never use LOD's, so I haven't paid attention to this. I am posting based on what I remember from other posts, comments, and browsing of the SDK)

AFAIK, scenery LODs with FSDS are no longer possible. By all means, if you figure it out, please share what you are doing. I've tried to make them work, another scenery designer I work with tried to make them work (he even emailed Abacus about it)to no avail. Abacus says it's possible. The two of us can't get them to work.:banghead:

LODs do work with FSDS, but not in FSX. It's a problem with SP2, not the FSDS models. AFAIK, no LODs work in SP2. While placing objects (FSDS and default objects) with Instant Scenery I've seen them working. Restart FSX and the LODs stop working.
