• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

LODs for town landclasses?

Seems I've come across yet another fsx oddity.

I'm working on Iceland (no reason to make a secret out of that anymore) and I need villages and towns to look quite different there. So I want to use the default agn files with custom textures. Also I delete all vegetation on parts of the the agn files. That works just fine (see screenshot).

The only problem is that my custom texture only shows very close to the aircraft (like LOD15 or so), some hunder feet away it suddenly switches to the default suburban texture (landclass #113). Again see screenshot to see what I mean. (rectangular LOD? structure in the left and upper parts of the image)

Why does fsx do this? Is there a way of preventing it? :(

Hi Folks

Thorsten -
Only a guess,
Default tiles appearing in distance.
Could it be that your tile texture has no MIPs
so MIP is called from default tile ?

No, they do have Mipmaps, Paul. Would've been too nice to solve it so fast. :D

This is really weird, because I use lots of custom landclass textures, and with all of them have no problems, just those #113 landclass. I'll see what happens for other urban textures, maybe I can use another landclass definition then.

EDIT: And indeed with another landclass type (119 - small city instead of medium) it works just fine.

This is one more fsx oddity. You don't know why, it takes you hours and hours to figure it's not your fault at all - and in the end you simply ask "why?"... :banghead:
