• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

it will be a photoreal scenery ?
Photoreal is being used in certain areas. So, the more accurate, the better.

The file have information about buildings, roads and rivers so it's usefull for tools like Scenproc, in the creation of autogen. Once the coastline would be defined the tool FsxKml could créate the islands, right now can't remember the process.
Just to clarify, for this area of vector, I currently only need shorelines and water bodies. (Rivers, Lakes, etc.) Roads and LC are all being done by hand.
 
I will upload the .shp file, it's not finished, by experience it would be good to start the shorelines drawings from scratch, too much work. but you can get some data from the file like roads, rivers, buildings. Maybe someone be interested. I have been looking for a method to convert shapes created in photoshop, rasterized and aferward poligonized in Qgis, but no way. go ahead with the proyect is interesting enough.

I just tried that myself today! I got it to work (using the OSGeo4W Shell) but I wasn't very happy with the .shp I ended up with. Seems the secret is you can only have 2 colors on your raster (black/white) and even if you use anti-aliasing on the lasso tool when you select the filled areas there's enough variance in blacks/grays that gdal_polygonize starts making millions of tiny little polys around the edges. So then if you don't use any anti-aliasing when you select you end up with a single poly but the edges of it look like this:

No way around it that I can see. I tried the SRTM .shps and they all had jagged edges too. Maybe there's some payware shoreline data somewhere that's accurate and smooth enough to use in an automated way but I doubt it. I agree, there's only one way to do quality hydro polys and shorelines and that's to click them out by hand, this project will require about 30 years to complete I think, lol.
 
Yes, all those litlle square polys, all these experiments was made in a Little chaotic manner,as I have not enough knowledge in gis stuff, Maybe exporting as ai ilustrator file could have better results, or dxf files. In global mapper there is a tool where you can "smooth" the poligonized shapefile, (it was a Little light), then I could isolate the most outside shape line, just selecting it. it seem that work at first attempt but in the second fail in the process, it was what I got with the Little knowledge about the matter, anyway must be a way to get line shape file from our own drawn rasters. will be really interesting for flight simulator productions. because for projects like this is a Little insane to trace the coastline of the islands.
