Loosing texture in FS2004

Hi

I have been experimenting with Google Sketchup Version 8, I made a simple box and covered the sides and top in Groundcover_RiverRock_4inch from the materials paint bucket. I then exported the model and saved it as a Google earth file .kmz.

Next I open it into ModelConverterX and exported into FS9 MDL object and used Library CreatorXML_203 / ADE to get it into my Airport etc.

Everything worked fine except for some reason I have lost my original Groundcover_RiverRock_4inch material form my box. Now it is just a plain grey covered box.

Has anyone an idea of why this box has lost its texture ? or maybe have a better solution to convert into FS2004

Many thanks
Darrell.

First, you are losing the texture, not loosing it. Pet peeve... :)

Did you place that texture file into the TEXTURE folder adjoining the SCENERY folder where the BGL file was placed?

What format is that texture file in? It should be either 8 bit (256 color), DXT1, DXT3, or 32 bit for FS9. The usual 24 bit color BMP format will not display in FS.

Hope this helps,

I know i should have checked me spelling first lol, anyway .....

Thanks for reply Tom,
The only texture file i can recall was in the Google Sketchup material folder which is an SKM File (.skm), not sure if it would it be possible to use that or convert as my texture file. I am not currently on my pc with the programs so will have to check later if there was a texture file created when i made the BGL file.

Regards
Darrell.

Hi,

Did you see the texture in ModelConverterX while converting? If so, you better use the Mass Texture Editor functionality to convert the texture into a format the FS can work with. By default SketchUp often uses JPG files that FS can not read.

I finally got the textures working ok now using the Mass Texture Editor, I found a good tutiorial on web which explained how to use it.
