• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Making Coastlines

Folks, I posted this query in AVSIM a few days ago, and have heard nothing:

http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=123&topic_id=24636&mesg_id=24636&page=

Essentially my question is: what is the best tool to make an accurate coastline over a small area (4 LOD13 cells), based on topographic map info (not digital)? Using a GUI where I can trace my topo map would be easiest.

I've tried using Coastline Maker but as the days go on either I don't understand the program or it's limitations are so severe that it is better to use for just a first stab, then hand edit. I seem to get "almost" done, then need to make a couple of corrections, which screws up a lot of what I have done. So now it's one step forward, two steps back.

If hand editting is the key, then I'm looking for the format for the .ASM for VTP and LWM data.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. I'm sure there's a solution as I've seen lots of shorelines over much more extensive areas with reasonable accuracy.

Hi Jon.

I think most designers are using Ground2K4 or SBuilder. CoastlineMaker has not been updated for quite some time.

SBuilder now will import some GIS data formats, and will import LWM and VTP BGLs!

Thanks, Dick. I was trying to avoid the learning curve on Ground 2k4, but it sounds like it's worthwhile. And I'll take a look at Sbuilder.
