• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi....
I need some group of people so I pasted a photo and cut out the group and had FSDS made the form...but it only assembled the outline!!!!! no I can´t paste the texture(people group)its just black on both sides ..empty space!!!!.....what did I do wrong????....:eek:

Solid, I dont know if I understand your question, but there is an answer...

Texture

Note.I work with FlashMX but you surely can do this in Photoshop, Gimp etc.

Take a picture of a group.
Cut all the background and replace it by black color.
Save the file in BMP format.
Open the file in DXTBmp.
Alpha menu, Create Alpha Channel (Black)
Save the file in DXT3 or DXT5.

FSDS

Create a cube and resise it's Y and Z axes in group's appropriate dimension and X axe very thin.
Create a trans material (put all the values to 0).
Name the cube "trans".
Apply the texture file to the right and left faces of the cube.

Hope it's help you...

Jean Pierre - thanks for the reminder. No wonder it wasn't working for me last night!

I forgot that the transparent material in FSDS HAS to have one of the special tags "trans" "glass" .

Here is the result, in my Haut-Fond-Prince&Tadoussac scenery.

Important note about order of transparent objets

In this zodiac type boat, there is three copies of people group objet. In the center of the boat the left group is physically in front of the right one (look at the feet). But the right one seems visually in front of the left one (the leg of the most left person of the right group is over the arm the most right person of the left group). This is because the right group is upper than the left group in the objets list of the model.

The order of transparent objets in a model determine it's visual priority on the other transparent objets, doesn't matter where it is. This can cause visual "logic" problem in some models (ex : bridge, ship etc.).

I don't know if there is a solution...

Hi Jean...

What you have done in your boat is exactly what I need with the group.....I have not tried your instructions yet due to other projects but will do so this weekend.....I have many of your addons, great work--congratulations.

As a brand new (wannabee) modeler your comments were very helpful for me.

I was wondering why an alpha channel didn't seem to work in sim and being new it had me stumped. Took your tip into FSDS, found my way around and somehow found the method to make everything work. Still need to refine my work just a tad, but the hard part seems over... for today!;)

Thanks!

Meshman, you might be new but you sure have solved many problems for me...;) always thankful....
