• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm trying to create a mouserec for an object that will bring up the map screen, having trouble finding the tag for it.

Hey Brian,

Man, I think you will have to write some part code for that. You'll need to know the code call as well that FS uses.

Look in the SimIcons1024.cab file... ;)
Code:
<Gauge Name="Map Icon" Version="1.0">
    <Image Name="map_icon.bmp"/>
    <Mouse>
        <Help ID="HELPID_GAUGE_FLIGHT_MAP"/>
        <Cursor Type="Hand"/>
        <Click Event="FLIGHT_MAP"/>
    </Mouse>
</Gauge>

There you go. Fr. Bill has provided the basic code structure.

Find a part that uses a lever or something similar, (like a switch). Copy/paste that part code to the top of your part code, and add in your new code entry modifications, add your code into the existing code section, boot up FS, compile in Gmax, and check in FS.

If you are using FSX, you will need to create a GUID serial number and header section for your new part code.

Primary note; Code string that is most important; FLIGHT_MAP <--- this is the action code that initiates your Map mode to occur.

Not sure where the code goes, does it completly replace everything between the <PartInfo> and </PartInfo> or does it exist in there with the existing code?

I grabbed the code for [switch_true_or_magnetic_heading] since I didn't think I'd be using it. it looks like this:

<PartInfo>
<Name>switch_true_or_magnetic_heading</Name>
<AnimLength>50</AnimLength>
<Animation>
<Parameter>
<Code>(L:ShowTrueHeading, bool) 50 *</Code>
</Parameter>
</Animation>
<MouseRect>
<Cursor>Hand</Cursor>
<CallbackCode>(L:ShowTrueHeading, bool) ! (&gt;L:ShowTrueHeading)</CallbackCode>
<TooltipID>TOOLTIPTEXT_SELECT_MAGNETIC_OR_TRUE_HEADING</TooltipID>
</MouseRect>
</PartInfo>

so I'm not sure where to put Bill's code in here.

Thanks for your detailed explanation I'm just still trying to wrap my head around the syntax of the .XML code for FSX.

Oh and another thing!

Oh, also this part doesn't need to animate it's a chart laying on the seat, I've seen this done before (click on the chart and the map screen opens)

Brian

:D

PHP:
<PartInfo>
    <Name>Toggle_Map</Name>
      <MouseRect>
            <Cursor>Hand</Cursor>
            <TooltipText>View Map</TooltipText>
            <EventID>FLIGHT_MAP</EventID>
      </MouseRect>
</PartInfo>

Remember that you must create an <Animation...guid=.../> entry!
