• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys

So im considering making a program where users can map their hardware directly to the aircraft im working on. Only problem is i have to save the settings in a text file. Now my question is how do i tell the difference between 1 joystick and another if the user has multiple hardware devices? The input definition is joystick:n:input[:i] where n is the joystick number starting from 0. I need to identify devices using their GUID. Any suggestions? Or is full out DirectInput the only way to go?

Thanks
JB

You can write a small configuration utility that will let the user specify which game controller is which, saving the results, including the GUIDs into a text file of your own design. Then you can avoid doing the whole thing with DirectInput, which would still require determining which controller was which...

Er...my question was how do i determine which device is joystick:0 and which one is joystick:1 etc....

Hi,

Ddawson suggested that you write a small utility. In this utility, a dialog will ask the user to move the elevator joystick (for instance). Just check the device that was moved and record the number in the config file. Do the same for other joysticks and you are done ... until somebody disconnects or reconnects something.

So DirectInput is necessary for using the Simconnect system?

Depending on what you want to achieve, you could try the simpler joystick functions from the Multimedia API. Although it's been superseded by DirectX is still works in Win7 64-bit. Simply add

Code:
#include <mmsystem.h>
to your header file to use the functions.

Ok....im still finding myself a bit confused. Doesnt FSX have its own enumeration for this? Cuz thats what i really need to find. I want to make sure that my system stays in sync with FSX and simconnect.
