• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

MSFS20 MCX disabling animations on export

Hi , when I export my animated radar dish to MSFS (gltf) it disables the animation stating the model was imported from a bgl or mdl file. This is not the case, it was imported from fsds as an x file. Is there a way round this?
Thanks
Paul

Just an update, Now have managed to export without MCX telling me that it has disabled the animation but when in MSFS there are no animations. This time I imported the object into MCX as a fsc from fsds and the animations displayed in MCX.
thank
Paul

Hi Paul,

A DirectX X file is consider similar as a MDL file when it comes to the animation restrictions. Else it would be very easy to get around this restriction by just exporting to MDL again and keeping the intermediate X file.

What kind of time/keyframe values are in the animation? You might have to scale them to have them show up in MSFS correctly.

Hi Arno, Hope you are well. I have made 2 objects, 1 a simple animated object to test, the second is the object I require for the scene. The first is the simple one. The second is I think half of the more complex object. Both use ambient.

1. Simple

2. Complex object

Both objects rotate in MCX after being imported as a fsc file. But on export there is no animation and no warning of the animation being removed. After checking the xml file there is no mention of animation.

Hi Paul,

You are exporting to gltf?

No, that should be right. And when you load the gltf back into MCX there is no animation anymore?

I just checked with an animated FSDS object I have here, but I can export the animation to glTF. The XML file does not show the animation indeed, but if you open the glTF file in a text editor you should see it contains an animations section with the correct animation type in there.

Sure, i can have a look if you post the file.

Hi,

I tried both objects and the animations appear fine in the glTF file. When I load the glTF file back into MCX they do show.

In the exporter settings, what value have you set for the animation scaling setting?

That's the same value I used. Not sure why you can't export the animations then.

Ok used the simple test model and still no animations, Just a thought , I use ade to compile at the moment could that be effecting the animations? or is it the animation its self? Has anyone successfully exported a rotating ambient object and if so what animation format was used.

Thanks
Paul

You mentioned that when you load the glTF file back into MCX you don't see an animation either. So I think the issue is more in MCX and not in the tool you use to place the object with.

Which build of MCX are you using? Is it a recent development release or an older build?

No that was with the x file version. When I import the gItf from the fsc version I do. I had a thought, could you let me have the gltf that you have exported and I will see if that works in the game. If it does then it is something wrong with my set up. If it doesn't then I will try placing it into the game in dev mode to see if that changes anything.
