• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX MCX Importing Library Objects

Please let me take this opportunity to thank you for the excellent tool and even more so for your constant improvement. I feel obliged to make good use from the effort.
Recently the ability to add library items as attached objects was included - right at the moment I was trying to figure out how to pack several hundred thousand more polygons into my model - so thanks also for that. Not that it was a goal, but I'm now able to assemble over 1.2 million polygons as a single FSX scenery object; it plays at about .85 FPS on my system, oops. This I can do so long as I stay within the 60k odd vertex per color/texture limit. Apparently there is also an upper combined limit of about 1 million polygons - even if they are all in groups of fewer than 60 thousand.

My question or request is if you could easily modify MCX, yet one more time, to allow the inclusion of effects already attached to library objects. Currently, if I add a library .bgl with night illumination to my .MDL, the night illumination is not added and currently, the only work around is to add the night illumination to the "parent" model at the exact location the added library object will be.
In the attached image, one of the helos on the deck is a library object attached to the model and the green lights are effects that are also attached to the model. One may disable the library .BGL to attempt to improve frame rates, but there is no simple way to remove the lights. I would think to create a library object that is only the lights, but I fear they would be stripped upon importing anyway.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi,

That is a nice full carrier :)

I am not sure if I understand your question. Are the lights and the helicopter in the same model or not? If they are, removing the library that contains the helicopter would also mean the lights go away or not?

If I understand what is not working, I might be able to fix it. But at the moment I don't fully understand what you are trying to do.

Thank you for allowing me make my carrier and to explain my concern. As you can see from this screen image, the lights are effects attached to the model.

The airplanes and helicopters are an attached scenery .bgl which became possible with the attached library object implementation. However, when I first created the light effect, I naturally attached it to the airplane/helo .bgl, but it would not render or present in FSX. Transferring the light effect was fairly easy, I simply opened the LOD window, deleted the only LOD, then imported the .x file into the carrier model. The lights immediately worked in FSX, exactly where the helo was, of course, but they remain if you remove the helo .bgl.

I am asking if it is possible to adjust MCX to allow library objects to have attached effects, like smoke and night lights.

Hi,

Now I see. I'm not sure if this can be fixed though. If fsx does not show effects of attached library objects there isn't much we can do.

I'll see if I can reproduce the issue here.
