• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MCX missing texture error

Hi folks, this happens only when opening an aircraft model file ( FSX, P3D.... no matter ) :
last versions of MCX always report the warning " failed to load texture" for the GlobalEnvTest.dds and GlobalEnv_AC_Chrome.dds files even if the aircraft model doesn't use those textures.
The files are present in the main texture folder but the program ignores all .
The error shows the same regardless the model file needs the textures or not.

Were these models default aircraft? Is there an example you can name for I or others to look at?
 
Hi, it happens with every aircraft model, the default ones and all the others.
It doesn't occur if a BGL scenery file is loaded.

If the models have the option to use the global environment map enabled, these files will be loaded.

Which FS version do you have set as preferred version in the options? That determines where MCX looks for the main texture folder.
 
This is what I get when the default F22 for P3D is opened ( i.e. exemple ).
The error is presented in the log file but the texture is not used by the model.
Happens with any preferred FS version selected and I checked the correct texture path.

This time is an add-on airplane and she is using the globalenv_ac_chrome.dds
The warning comes out but the texture is present in the correct airplane texture folder.
Seems a false positive.

Hi,

If you look at the F-22 you will see that some that glass_t material has the option to use the global environment map as reflection set to true, this causes the model to load the GlobalEnvTest.dds file. So the file is used by the model.

But there was indeed a bug in the DDS reader that caused this cube map to not be read correctly. That's why the warning about failing the read the texture was shown. I have just fixed that. So in the next development release it will be fixed.
 
Just downloaded and installed the latest release.
looks like the errors didn't come up anymore.
