• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 MCX not exporting attached objects and transparencies in FS9

Well, if you remove the attach points before exporting they are obviously not there to be exported anymore. Looks like you on purpose removed them.

Ok, let me see if I can reproduce that.

Hi Arno,
It could well be down to my installation - I downloaded an old version of the dev build from the web archive and it still had the same issue, the lights disappeared once again.
The lights are lost when the aircraft is exported, even if nothing else is done to it. I've sent you my exported file in PMs. If you'd like my MCX and MakeMDL folders as well I'll provide those.
Many thanks
I did check your MDL file and it is indeed missing the lights. I do see that your MDL file is 531 kB in size, while mine is 653 kB. Can you check if you have both the MakeMDL.exe path and the MakeMDL.parts.xml paths set in the MCX options? The first is in the "Exporter settings" section and the last in the "FS related settings" section.

Do you also have both of these files in your MakeMDL folder?

I only removed 2 effects, but not all.
I tried to reproduce it, but here I can export the MDL with the effects fine.

However if I look at your MakeMDL output in the event log, I suspect you have selected the FS2004 aircraft MDL file as output instead of the FS2004 scenery MDL file. Could that be the case? Effects are not exported to aircraft MDL files.

Both the directories are set properly.
I've fixed the issue with the lights, but ended up creating an entirely new one. I reset my config by just deleting the file and re-generating on the newest version, and although the lights work the animations and transparencies are still broken, yet they show up fine in MCX and are only affected in sim.

Ok, one step closer. Let's try to find the cause of the remaining issues. Are all animations broken or just specific ones?

Hi Arno,
Sorry for the late reply.
All animations are broken, with no gear and the control surfaces being towards one side. I'll export a new MDL file and send you what happens. It's rather interesting.

Hi again,
I've tried once more with the latest development release to see if anything has changed but I'm still encountering the same issues.
The animations work completely fine in MCX, using the slider everything works properly. It's only when the model is loaded into FS9 where we encounter problems.

Every control surface is stationary with no gear legs either. We can ignore the transparency issues for now. I've tried exporting a few different Traffic 2005 models without changing anything to the same results.
This was never an issue until I regenerated my config to get the lights working.
When I export the default 737-400 cockpit I get animations, however. My MakeMDL.parts.xml is connected to MCX.
Many thanks

Hi,

I know you send me the object before, let me try to export the here on my PC back into FS2004 and see if I can reproduce it.

Hi,

I have imported the model you send me before into MCX and directly exported it to a FS2004 aircraft MDL again without making any changes.

If I then load the model in FS2004 it looks normal to me. The elevators, aileron, flaps, etc. all respond in the sim as they should. I do not see any control surfaces being displaced or so.

Hi Arno,
I've sent you my exported file with broken animations, and at least we now know it's due to my installation of MCX.
My MakeMDL was downloaded from FlyAwaySimulation since I'm staying away from my Fs2004 disks. I'm really not sure what's wrong with my installation either.
Is there anything else I can do aside from deleting the config in Appdata>Local to reset my MCX entirely and start all over again? Might try with a different machine.

If you'd like I can send my MCX installation over with config + MakeMDL for you to test

Hi,

Your MDL file is 4 kB smaller than mine. Could you enable to option to keep the X file as well and send me the X file that MCX made on your machine? Maybe I can see what is different if I compare the two X files.

My MakeMDL.exe is (1,024,000 bytes in size and my MakeMDL.parts.xml is 109,563 bytes. Does that differ from yours? I suspect the difference is likely to be in any of those two files.

My MakeMDL.exe is the same as yours (1,024,000 bytes) but my MakeMDL.parts.xml is 109,126 bytes, 110,592 on disk. Could you please send me your xml file?
Sent you my X file privately.

I will send you the file tomorrow, typing this from my phone. Can you share yours as well, so that I can check their diff and see if that could explain the issues.

Thanks, I'll try to check it tonight.

Hi,

I had a look at the X file you send me, but it is very different from the X files I get. When I export as a FS2004 aircraft MDL file I get a separate X file for each LOD. You have one big X file. Can you check if you are not exporting as a FS2004 scenery MDL file?

Hi,
I exported it just as an Fs2004 .x file. The aircraft is indeed being exported as an Fs2004 aircraft. Is there another way to export the .x files that I've missed?
