• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MCX X-Plane LIGHT_NAMED

Good day Arno;

In MCX we are in the 'Attached Object Editor' .

Down the bottom we can specify X-Plane light_named parameter we like to use to show the light of our choice.

Although the light_named parameter is specified when exporting and saving as an x-plane obj it is not recorded and 'LIGHT_NAMED area_lt_med_bb' is recorded .

Basically the Light_NAMED parameter can not be specified as it does not get exported.

Thanks for your time

Hi,

I have just checked the source code and you are right. The X-Plane OBJ exporter does not use this attribute of the light. It is only set by the importer when reading OBJ files so that you can see what kind of light has been set in the attached object editor. I have put a feature request on the todo list now to also use it in the exporter.

Hi,

This feature request had slipped through my mind a bit, but I have started looking at it again. Making sure the attribute is written is rather easy, so I'll add that. But I think a mapping from FS light types or even from fx names to X-Plane named lights might be useful, but I can't find a full list of the supported X-Plane lights. I have read it is in the lights.txt file. Do anybody maybe know where I can find an overview of what kind of lights are defined in there?

Thanks for the link to the test object. That should be useful for testing. I did just finish implement something. So I can use this object for a final test.

That documentation I had also found, but seems far from complete and it references the light.txt file for details.
