• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 MDL scenery object-what do I do?

How to use the "animated windsock" ...provided by Jörg Dannenberg (aka "jdberg") & Arno (...continued)

PART-5: Get correct Magnetic Declination (aka "MagDec") Heading to place "animated windsock" via FS2004 BGLComp XML

NOTE: Magnetic Declination is also referred to as Magnetic Variation (aka "MagVar")

1.) In FS9 user aircraft flight session at ex: LEMU:

a.) Set flight into "Slew" mode ("Y" key command)

b.) Set flight parameters to display on-screen by pressing the keyboard '<Shift+Z> key command repeatedly

c.) Set aircraft orientation to "Magnetic North" for user aircraft FS location by pressing the keyboard 'SpaceBar' key (FSX: <Ctrl> + <Spacebar>)

NOTE: FS user aircraft HDG value should now match the local MagVar of "003" at that Geographic coordinate position

PART-6: Prepare "animated windsock" scenery object library BGL and mapped textures for placement via FS2004 BGLComp XML

NOTE: This assumes your scenery package has been added to the FS9 Scenery Library as an "Active" layer with the following folder chain ex:

[FS9 install path]\Addon Scenery\ LEMU

1.) In Windows Explorer (aka "My Computer" or "Computer")

a.) Copy the new compiled "Windsock animated_jdb_LIB.bgl" from the "Windsock animated" folder to ex:

[FS9 install path]\Addon Scenery\ LEMU\Scenery sub-folder

b.) Copy "windsock_LM.bmp" and "windsock.bmp" textures for "Windsock animated_jdb_LIB.bgl" from the "Windsock animated" folder to ex:

[FS9 install path]\Addon Scenery\ LEMU\Texture sub-folder

PART-7: Place "animated windsock" from "Windsock animated_jdb_LIB.bgl" via FS2004 BGLComp XML

NOTE: In MSFS, 'Wind Direction' is always expressed in degrees Magnetic

1.) Using ex: ADE9, 'place' the first Windsock scenery library object (...#0) in the "Windsock animated_jdb_LIB.bgl" at LEMU

a.) For placement, use a Heading of +3.3892822266 Degrees to correct the object for Magnetic Declination / Variation ...relative to True North

b.) ONLY '1' "Windsock animated" custom object needs to be placed; any duplicate 'paired' windsock object placement at LEMU is optional. :pushpin:

2.) Save the Windsock 'placement BGL' as ex: "Windsock animated_jdb_PLC.bgl" in your 'Active' LEMU FS scenery library folder chain at:

[FS9 install path]\Addon Scenery\ LEMU\Scenery sub-folder

NOTE: MagVar displayed / used in FS9 is based on the non-changing data within MS-ACES' FS9 "MagDec.BGL" ...dated March 3rd, 2003 in:

[FS9 install path]\Scenery\Base\Scenery sub-folder

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magdec_BGL_File

* Also note the "real-world'' Magnetic Declination (variation) at LEMU:

"Variation: 0.04°E (WMM2015 magnetic declination)"
"0.11° annual change"

http://www.gcmap.com/airport/LEMU

FYI: Using a somewhat verbose conversion of MSFS variable offsets reported via FSUIPC, a Heading of (Mag): -3.3892822266 = True Heading: 0

BTW: For additional information regarding Magnetic Declination / Magnetic Variation, see:

http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/declination.shtml

PART-8: Re-start FS9; Set FS Weather to customized Wind Speed and Direction:

1.) Re-start FS9 at LEMU, and via FS9 GUI Menu > World > Weather ('Weather' dialog opens)

2.) In "Weather" dialog:

a.) Click [Customize weather...] button ('Weather' conditions dialog opens)

b.) In Weather > Conditions dialog sub-section, set Wind speed slider to: Moderate (16 kts.)

c.) In Weather > Conditions dialog sub-section, set Wind direction dial to +3 degrees

d.) Click 'OK' ('Weather' conditions dialog closes; returns to Weather dialog)

e.) Click 'OK' ('Weather' closes; returns to current FS flight session)

NOTE
: FS9 Wind should now be coming from Magnetic North at 16 Kts. so that any Windsock will be fully deployed, and active animations displayed.

3.) Slew up to the Windsock tail-end (small) opening position

a.) Inspect Windsock Heading / animation from ex: user aircraft virtual cockpit view at +3 Degrees

4.) Also inspect Windsock Heading / animation from ex: user aircraft virtual cockpit view at Headings which match different Wind Speed / Direction settings (...as configured in steps 2.) and 3.) immediately above in this Part-8).

Hope this helps, and that I did not post any incorrect info (my available time was limited today, so this was composed in a bit of a 'rush').

Many thanks again to Jörg Dannenberg & Arno for making this excellent animated Windsock available to us ! :)

PS: I'll check this tutorial again later to see if any further edits / corrections are needed. ;)

GaryGB
Thank you very much GaryGB for your excellent guide.I now have an animated windsock in my LEMU scenery!benibaz.:)

Glad that helped ! :)

LEMU seem to be a great aerodrome for a FS development project (whether FS9 or FSX / P3D), with an interesting mix of aviation activities in a beautiful scenery area; I look forward to seeing further progress here ! ;)

BTW: The Aeroclub de Alicante flight simulator appears to use MSFS scenery, and I was wondering if their website photos of the training simulator are showing a LM-P3D product ? :scratchch

I will try to improve the surrounding area of the airfield with the addition of the residential area to the north,I have started, but cannot find library objects such as houses etc, which are typical of the mediteranian scenery.Once completed ,I will upload to AVSIM Library and FlightSim,I know nothing of the flight sim used by the Aeroclub de Alicante,so cannot comment!thanks once again, benibaz.

Hi again:

A few suggestions for fine-tuning this project (linked above in this thread) in its distributed form at ex: Flightsim.com:

I get an error (only 'once' after initially starting a flight at your LEMU airport in FS9) which seems related to texture mapping (due to using an explicit 'path' inside the MDL ?) when I look towards the intended placement position for the AS 350 Ecureuil Eurocopter:

LEMU_FS9_Texture_AS_350_sub-folder_Error.png

I was unable to find any explanation for this error via BGLComp-type XML placement code for that MDL inside the "hybrid" LEMU_ADE9_BME.BGL (the ADE 'airport' BGL ...also used for scenery library object placement) ...for your project.

I was also unable to find any explanation for this error when loading at LEMU using your scenery project ...via use of the optional "ShowMissingTextureAlert=1" entry in the (active Windows user copy of) FS9.Cfg [Scenery] sub-section ...as discussed here: o_O

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Missing_textures

Possibly the MDL needs to be re-exported via ModelConverterX (aka "MCX") for correction of the texture mapping path to a local folder chain by ensuring that the texture mapping output 'path' is checked and manually re-assigned in the MCX "Material Editor" > Texture tab prior to (re-)export to a FS(-format MDL and/or FS9 format BGLComp-type XML scenery object library BGL ?

Incidentally, MCX reports that 1 or more textures mapped to that AS 350 Ecureuil Eurocopter MDL are not (yet) formatted into the recommended "powers of 2" aspect ratio for optimal performance when rendered in FS at run time; this too can be fixed when setting the texture mapping output 'path' in the MCX "Material Editor" > Texture tab ...prior to export of that MDL via MCX into a FS9 BGLComp-type scenery library format BGL. ;)

Also, most of the many vegetation objects placed via ADE for the airfield perimeter (apparently the result of concessions to mitigate objections to visibility and noise with the nearby residential area) seem to be missing in FS9; perhaps the MDLs and/or their textures need to be double checked for completeness and missing textures ? :scratchch

Additionally, when one creates a flatten in ADE9x, or otherwise adjusts the elevation of an airport object in ADE, 'sometimes' ADE will also output a *_TER (terrain) BGL to correct the start location load altitude for user and AI aircraft at ones airport scenery; such a file as your "LEMU_ADE9_BME_TER.bgl" should be put into this folder by the end user ...for proper airport functionality: :pushpin:

[FS install path]\Scenery\World\Scenery

[EDITED]

I have started, but cannot find library objects such as houses etc. which are typical of the Mediterranean scenery.

Once completed, I will upload to AVSIM Library and FlightSim.

Thanks once again,

benibaz.

Perhaps you might consider making some custom "Generic Buildings" as described in this thread:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/whos-ready-for-a-stupid-question.437532/#post-746343

NOTE: Although the default [FS9 install path]\Texture\tileroof_4.bmp is not very good to represent tropical tile roofs, IIUC, one can make a copy of this texture, then:

1.) Keep the same file name / 8-bit color BMP image file type / 32x32 pixel row and column count / file size

2.) Edit a copy of that file to replace it with your own desired substitute tile roof image in a graphics application[/COLOR]

3.) Put the new edited copy of that texture file in a local paired LEMU\Texture sub-folder (alongside the BGLComp-type XML generic building definition and placement BGL which should be put in the physically adjacent local paired LEMU\Scenery sub-folder).

Alternatively, you may wish to consider learning to make custom 3D models in ex: Sketchup (it's actually easy and fun with Sketchup, IMHO). :coffee:

[END_EDIT]

PS: The scenery I saw on the web site for Aeroclub de Alicante flight simulator apparently was made for FSX by a "Vicente Varba":

http://www.aeroclubdealicante.com/#!El-AeroClub-en-FSX/c21xo/1

However, I don't see that it actually ended up being made available (yet ?) as may have been intended:

https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.airhispania.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3130&prev=search

Hope this additional info helps; keep up the good work on your project ! :)

Hello GaryGB,I will try to rectify the problem of the AS 350 as well as the problem of the missing vegetation around the perimeter, also the file "LEMU_ADE9_BME_TER.bgl" was in my LEMU scenery folder, but I deleted it,not knowing why it was there, now I have found it in my LEMU.zip folder and have copied it to FS9\Scenery\World\Scenery folder:),I will also look at the link
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/whos-ready-for-a-stupid-question.437532/#post-746343 and see if it can be usefull for my project.benibaz.
