• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MDL to BGL

Hi All,

Tried to create BGL from MDL (simobjects) via MCX, static ship, but when tried to add it to scenery by InstantScenery3, model was invisible.
Please help!!!

I looked inside your computer and read your mind but I remain stumped! I don't want to make you work too hard on your own solution but it might encourage replies if you go into as much detail as possible about your procedure, why you expected the model to be visible and what you've already tried that didn't work. Do you, for example, know with certainty; that your texture paths are correct, that your textures are in the proper format and available to the flight sim render?
If you are at all in doubt about these or other factors, you should also provide examples of your problem model and copies of MCX logs, screen shots, etc.

Ok, sorry,

Im trying to use this model you can download it here http://ge.tt/6RwCV8D2/v/0?c
in a scenery as static ship. Using MCX have created BGL, all looks good, textures is ok, made scenery folder and texture, scenery is activated.
But when trying to place ship in FSX via Instant Scenery 3, I didnt see this model.

You need to convert the model to a library object. Import your model and open "Scenery Object Editor." With the Add object button you can add more models to the library you are creating, say you want to include support ships or dock items. Then click Export scenery as a FSX .bgl.
Instant Scenery can't place .mdl or object .bgl's, all models must be bundled into a library .bgl, even if it is only one model. Additionally, ownership bears mentioning here. One might wonder if Aleksandr Irshinski was given permission by either Harri Thaha or Hadi Tahir to upload and share the file at what amounts to a basic file share site. Generally people are free to use models in any way they please for personal enjoyment only, however to upload an example here (without prior permission) would constitute a violation of the authors use terms in the readme.
In that regard, the Kiev is an extremely popular shape to model and there are numerous examples, in fact it is probably one of the most modeled ships online and you could easily find a version that has less restrictive terms.

I just wanted to show you. Deleted.
I want to place it over sea to fly with friends, Im not violate any author rights.

Thank you for help

I don't do any enforcement and trust your judgement. It is my responsibility to observe and report these things to you, in the hopes it will help you develop your skill and allow you to provide more interesting content for flight simulator for us to enjoy.

I will be more careful with such things. Thanks a lot again. Your instruction was very helpful.
