• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Mercer Airfield 2024

This is my first post regarding the Mercer Airfield project I'm working on. The Airfield is located south of Auckland in New Zealand. It's a small aircraft type.
However it has a large ex airforce hangar on it and an interesting old hangar area with a Backpackers motel. The fun thing about this Airfield is the old
Hangar area is separated from the main Airfield area by a water channel. I have made the bridge that crosses it so you can taxi from one area to the other.
In reality these days only a few small aircaft do this for maintenance reasons. However it is fun, so I have placed a starting point in the old hangar area.
This is a walk around Airfield, so you can enter the big hangar, the motel, and several other buildings. There is the Dome Cafe which has a spiral staircase which you can
Climb to an upper deck. The Airfield is a day operation so don't have runway lights, but I will be adding lights around the buildings and might do an addon that adds the runway lights.
At the moment I'm have 95% of the modelling done in Blender. There is still work to be done on textures which I have to workout how to add dirt etc. The current ones ore generally too clean. This version of Mercer Airfield will be 90% accurate to the real thing. Mainly because I measured it about two years ago. I used to belong to the RC aircraft club that flew there. You will find the RC boys by the orange hangar at the end of the runway. Before landing you should to announce your intentions to land on the radio. LOL.
This Airfield is in MSFS2024, but is very badly done. In reality he Airfield is flat, yet the one in the sim has the runway on a ridge with a major slope across the apron. The water channel is at surface level when it fact it is in a deep channel. Fixing that is a headache and still needs refining. The bridge they have isn't cross able.
At the moment I'm having trouble finding people for it other than Daves people. I'm not sure what is the best approach for this. Also I would like to have some flowering shrubs around the motel. I have them all in my personal install, but the flowers come from NZA and the parked aircraft you will see in the images are from Burning Blue. I plan to build my own scenery Tiger moth for the Airfield. Can anyone tell me where I can find these objects? People, planes, flowering shrubs.
These early images gives you an idea of the size of the big hangar and yes you can taxi into it with a small plane.
