• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Missing Engine Parts when Exporting Certain Models

Hi all,

I am attempting to export FS2004 AI models. I am not exporting them to any other sim - I am simply opening and then re-exporting the .mdl files back to FS2004 format. The reason is that I can do two things:

1. Modify materials to be reflective - I think having reflective AI would be neat!
2. It removes all attached light objects for me (including landing lights with their ugly triangles) - something I have never loved on any AI model.

Some models work great, requiring only slight adjustments from me to work properly. However, some do not seem to work and I cannot figure out what is wrong.

An example is the FAIB 747 series. When I export the model, the engine fan disks become transparent when the engines are running, see screenshot:

However, with the engines stopped, they appear normal and all is well:

Hi,

After you import the FS2004 model, do these engine fans have the visibility conditions you would expect? I guess something might be wrong there. I'll try to see if I can find this model to have a look what is going on.

And just to be double sure, I assume you are already using the latest development release of MCX?

The fans seem to work just fine in MCX, setting the engine visibility conditions to 0 and 5000 on import seems to show up just fine.

And yes, I am using the latest development release :)

You might want to try to use the visibility conditions option for the conditions, instead of setting the values at import.

I would do that; however, on import, the model shows no visibility conditions at all.

I just grabbed the model myself and when I import it I do get visiblity conditions.

Boy that is strange, I just replaced the .mdl file (which to my knowledge was never modified before my attempting exporting) with the version that is currently downloadable from FSX AI Bureau, and I am still getting no visibility conditions. The same seems to be true of every single model I am trying...

None of the models that I import, even flyable ones, have visibility conditions. Not a single one. Is there something I am missing maybe?

Which version of MCX are you using? And do you have the modeldef.xml and makemdl.parts.xml paths set correctly?
