• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

model changes size when animated in gmax

When I animate a model in gmax and export to fsx the model changes size as though it is really far off. It only changes size (shrinks) if i animate it. if i don't animate; it stays the same size (normal) any suggestions?

model shrinks

Yes when i animate the rudder. I haven't tried to animate several parts yet but i'll try it and see what happenes.

Thanks Felix

Check your rudder for any rogue vertices. It is quite possible that you have one or more that're way off in space somewhere...

Hint, change the Viewport to display Bounding Boxes... :D

Also, reset the size or Scale of the object.

Sometimes, when you animate parts that have been scaled and not Scale Reset, they will do odd things, like become oblong or squashed. Funny to see tires do this. They will stretch out super tall, then collapse to round again, over and over as it rotates. Fr. Bill brought up a good point about the phenomenon. Its impossible to do in FS, but it still can happen, somehow.

If........ indeed this is what is happening with your object.

Thanks fellas, I will try your suggestions and post a reply to let you know if it worked or not.

Once again thank you for your help.

Well, now my plane has this.

I was exporting fine. I started animating parts and suddenly the model is 1/4 of a mile away, like as though in Tower View.

Went to Bounding Boxes view mode, all is fine. Reset Scales, no change.

Can a person change the distance view point in the MDL file? I know we could in FS9, and I have heard that isnt possible in FSX, and also heard one guy figured this out.

I would be greatful for any input on the subject.

Another gentleman just emailed me asking the same question.

Arno was kind enough several months ago to code up a little utility program he named "RADItor.exe" :coffee:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=RADItor

I load it up and use it to reset the (mis)calculated RADIus of the DA42 everytime I burn and new model, otherwise the (mis)calculated half-radius is 423 meters!

In my case, I know why this is happening. It's because of the animated bones that "inflate" to a huge size at keyframe 1...

A thousand thanks Bill.

Massively appreciated.

I should donate to the FSD website for Arno's hard work.
