• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

model deformed

Hi again,

I refer to my thread in the modelling section on the subject of converting static (library) objects into AI craft.
I think however that perhaps it is best placed here as it also deals with the workings of Arno's Model ConverterX (I hope the apostrophe is correct :D).
In the attachment you find a screenshot of 4 AI vehicles made from .mdl's (not sure about the apostrophy ) extracted from the library objects.
The two Humvees in the screenshot work fine, the Bradley drives backwards (see my a.m. thread) and the truck has apparently had an accident.
Now the truck is an FS9 model run trough the model converterX, and exported again after having given it a new name and GUID.
Upon initial import the model was deformed. After reloading the new mdl it was not deformed anymore, at least not in the Model ConverterX image). The result in FSX is nevertheless a deformed model once more.
Any idea what I do wrong or forget to do?.
(Fyi, making AI out of library objects opens up a whole new venue for the making of 'animated' scenery, especially for people that lack the ability of designing their own craft, like me.)
Perhaps I am inventing the wheel again or there is a better way to achieve all this?

Hi Roby,

Last week a bug was reported that some FS2004 objects have their polygons flipped. This seems to be the problem for you as well. I am working on this bug, so hopefully I can solve it soon. I don't think you did anything wrong here :).

Hi,

I have fixed the other bug I talked about (the one with flipped polygons). Can you check if you still have the problem? Let me know if this one is also solved.

Sure I will. Glad to, but I will have to wait for your fix in the next development release, won't I?
Thanks beforehand..
Roby

Hi Arno,

Sorry, it took me a while to figure out where to find your bug fix.
It works. No more problems found at the moment.
All I did so far is to import an FS9 model. change the name and GUID and export again as FSX model. And that worked flawlessly.
The only remark I could make is that the model shows too big for the preview window.
Now off to try to rotate the model and see what that gives.

Roby

EDIT: rotations work as well. Now going to try animations, who knows?
