• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Model Shows Up But No Textures

First time user of SAMM and I seem to be having a little bit of a problem. I'm trying to convert a B737-200 of Eastwind Airlines into a static object to use in ADE. I've been able to convert and place the model file in ADE but the problem I have is there are no textures on the model, just the blank shape of the aircraft. Also, I get 2 warning messages: One telling me that a directory can not be found in the FSX TEXTURE folder and also in the FSX\GLOBAL\TEXTURE folder. Am I not placing something correctly? Is there a step by step guide for first time users? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks....

Am I not placing something correctly?
Since you didn't tell me where you placed things, it's difficult to say. But, certainly, FSX is not finding the texture folder.

Is there a step by step guide for first time users?
I don't know how much simpler I can make things than they already are in the User Manual (which, admittedly, does assume the user knows how to place scenery files). SAMM-generated static aircraft are just scenery where the texture files are placed in a dedicated folder (like aircraft, because file names are often duplicate even within a single aircraft folder) or if you create a library, optionally, as individual standard texture files. This is all explained in the User Manual.

SAMM includes a stand-alone placement facility (which I suspect nobody but me uses) but which, nonetheless, is handy for isolating problems such as this. If you put things where the manual tells you to and the static aircraft displays properly using the stand-alone facility, then everything generated by SAMM is OK. If you, as many others (including me) use ADE or other placement utilities (such as IS) to place scenery objects, then you have to understand how they handle scenery files and associated textures. For that, you'd look in the respective placement uitility manual.

I've added a folder in my FSX scenery addon folder named "STATIC AIRCRAFT" and activated it as normal. But still no textures. Is there textures files that still need to be installed to the main FSX texture folder? I've read through the User manual a couple times and still can't figure out why no textures. That is why I was wondering if there is a step by step tutorial to see what I am not doing correctly.

Presumably, you've created a library that ADE is accessing. If you used SAMM's library creation facility, then the textures will have been copied in the texture folder of the library. If you created the library scenery folder (the one activated in the Scenery Library) properly, then it all should work. Creating a library of SAMM models is no different than creating a library of any old scenery objects!

Creating a scenery folder arbitrarily named "STATIC AIRCRAFT" does nothing.

If you are going to continue to ask me "what's wrong?", then you are going to have to detail what you've done, what you've put in each folder, etc. Otherwise, I'm not going to be able to help you.

Figured it out. I needed to copy the .BMP files to the main texture directory. All work fine now. Thanks.
