• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Model Zapping FSX

I 'successfully' compiled my first model for FSX from 3DS7. It's a complete external model only (no VC). After some corrections etc. the cmd window now indicates a 'perfect' model in that not a single error shows up while compiling.. fine! Now, when I fire up FSX and go to select the aircraft from the aircraft selection menu and click 'OK', FSX dissappears, vanishes! and I'm back on my desktop.

Has anybody else had this happen or does anybody know a reason why this would be happenning ?

Thanks.

#1 - Does your aircraft.cfg model.cfg file call for an interior model? (for expample, if you copied it over from an FS-X aircraft.cfg and didn't remove the interior model reference.

#2 - (wild guess) - some sort of an internal model is expected anyway and when none is present - Poof! What happens if you export a simple small textured cube as your interior model...?

It didn't have an interior model but I made one from a simple box. FSX is still crashing out.

I temporarily substituted the Extra's model for my model and it appears OK in FSX ! Granted it needs some material and animation fixes but it appears perfectly and is flyable.

I think this problem must be with the cfg or air file ? I've compared my aircraft.cfg file with that of a default aircraft and there really is nothing of notable difference.

Anybody else ??

I had an issue that resulted in FSX closing when selecting my project aircraft. Turned out that FSX didn't like me using a Metal texture. I switched it to Blinn & everything was fine. Long shot but maybe that's your problem?
