• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

ModelconverterX Q..

Hi...
I'm currently using the excellent ModelConverterX, but I suspect, not to it's full potential. Basically I use it for viewing textures applied to AC to check how the repainting looks prior to re- loading it into FS9/FSX.

Here's the silly Q... :oIs there a way of putting 'markers' on a model being displayed to help line up painting once its back in the paint programme? Sometimes it's difficult to get lines etc. to join :(
Thanks for any help re: this

Hi,

Using modelconverterx as a viewer for models is a common way to use it.

I am not sure what you mean with the markers though. But it is probably not in the tool yet. I haven't added many features targeted at reprinting.

I think he means like a uv map to aid in lining up textures to the model.

ModelconverterX Q

Hi..
Thanks for the replies. Sorry for not making myself clear :o

Kevin, you're correct, that's exactly what I mean. I didn't know it was called a 'UV Map' though....

Next Q..is there one please?
Thanks

Hi,

I guess technically I could create an empty texture with just the edges of all triangles on it. Then you would have a starting point for the repainting.

Hi Arno....
Thanks for the reply and offer of help :)

Basically, what would be very useful would be something (like you've suggested) that when one looks at progress made (or lack of it) and there's a need to 'line up' cheat lines or on my case the nose cone of the MAAM DC-3...(very difficult to do) A marker could be put on the model that, when re-loaded to the paint programme, there's a good reference point.

It'll take away some of the 'hit and miss' stuff that sometimes has to be applied.:)

Thanks for your time
