• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS 2020 SDK 0.7.1 issue

A clean install on the new 0.7.1 sdk on msfs2020 with 3DS Max 2021 does not load the Babylon Exporter.

You cannot use the latest exporter from Github as it breaks the flitsim python scripts,

Bug reported but like all other bugs, MS just closes the report and does not action anything. They do this 100% of the time - getting tedious reporting the same bugs over and over again and being told they have fixed it when its still broken.

No feedback, just a "solved" status.

But you can have different 3ds Max versions installed side by side !? ;)

For example, you use 3dsm Max 2020 to export your glTF models and 3ds Max 2021 for your other stuff. I currently only have 3ds Max 2020.2 installed, which is the only version besides 3ds Max 2019.3 that supports all SDK functions. The other Max versions are unfortunately still limited and do not offer all SDK tools/plug-ins :)

It worked in 2021 4 days ago and now it doesn't. Honestly, are there no quality control checks in M$ these days?

I don't really think that this question can be answered here. The documentation of the SDK states that 3ds Max 2021 is not fully supported:

3dsMax Versions Tools Differences

The Microsoft Flight Simulator SDK is designed to work best with 3dsMax 2019.3. We made the compatible tools available for earlier versions and it will work with later ones, though some tools will not be available for 3dsMax 2021.

2019.3 and 2020 :

NOTE : If you’re using 2020 you will need 2020.2 to use the export tools, the rest will still work
  • FlightSim Light
  • FlightSim Material
  • SphereFade
  • AsoboSphereGizmo
  • AsoboCylinderGizmo
  • AsoboBoxGizmo
  • MaterialTool
  • ObjectsRenamer
  • Babylon
  • Babylon Utilities/Create Animation Group From Selection
  • Legacy Modeldef Converter
  • MultiExporter
  • WiperTool
  • PBRViewportManager (In the viewport window [+]/FlightSim IBL/… )
  • Babylon Utilities/Update Container ID
  • Plane Validation/Fix End Lines
  • Plane Validation/Layers
  • Plane Validation/LODs Hierarchy
  • Plane Validation/Nodes
  • Plane Validation/Unique Names
  • Plane Validation/Rebuild Nodes (risky)
  • Count Materials
  • Animation Tools
  • LOD Utilities

2021 :

  • FlightSim Light
  • FlightSim Material
  • SphereFade
  • AsoboSphereGizmo
  • AsoboCylinderGizmo
  • AsoboBoxGizmo
  • MaterialTool
  • ObjectsRenamer
  • Babylon

If I were you, I would use either 3ds Max 2019.3 or 3ds Max 2020.2, so I don't have any problems with that or the current SDK :)
