• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

A little disconcerting that the Steam version has loading issues.

Also, anyone expecting 2020 packages to be compatible, may be in for a shock. It is Microsoft's intention for backward-compatibility, but there are issues.

I consider the new sim as fundamentally flawed at this point. I would guess the major issues will be corrected by a series of patches, but the next couple of months will be difficult for both end-users and third-party developers. The release was rushed. But I 'get it'. Microsoft needs the product released. Asobo would never be satisfied as their goal is perfection, so they wouldn't get to the release date without a demand from Microsoft. So the choice is to wait for perfection (which never comes), or settle for a product that will need continual tweaking to get the thing optimal. Unfortunately, without an extended external beta process, fundamental bugs are going to be the norm for the initial release.

Here's hoping Asobo can get this thing fixed quickly.

Eh, the main problem is the servers are critically overloaded. The sim itself seems much better looking and the performance is improved. Yesterday it was impossible for me to run 2024, even with a VPN. Today, I only got a few "Low Bandwidth" messages in Developer mode. I only focus on airports and so far, everything is working okay by just moving an existing 2020 package to the 2024 Community folder. I also updated a 2020 airport by importing the 2020 XML by adding a few apron text markings. The revised airport seemed to work okay in 2024. I've moved on and I'm making an attempt to understand the 2024 VDGS stuff, but it's so far beyond my abilities.

I really miss using the ADE MSFS alpha, mostly because a 2D CAD app is all that's needed for most airport revisions. Once the 2024 World Hub is reopened by MS in January, it might still be possible to use ADE in the workflow:

download World Hub default airport 2024 XML-->Load the XML in ADE for most tweaking, using Bing and Google imagery overlays--> Import ADE XML in 2024 Developer Mode and build the 2024 package.

The servers overloaded is just one of MANY problems. You can't disable addons, you can't download any addon at all because everything is streamed and most of the times it's not properly cached at all. You'll need a big cache to not download the same crap over and over (what is the point of that?). You can't select an area you want to cache like in 2020....... Some devices are bugged, lots of default objects/planes have issues, missing textures and/or lods. There is months of work to make this at where 2020 is now and the UI sucks, sorry but there is no better word for it.

They deserve no praise to have released it like this. It's beta at minimum.

you pay for the package, you pay for the network, you get overloaded network traffic.
to be honest, I not bother for 200gb download for initial, after that get smooth flying.

Microsoft Store, pre bought 11/4, still won't load, 99% installed in the Xbox app, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, checked drivers, restarted. Might need to replace the mouse, monitor and crumpled Ikea desk.

I purchased MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe SteelBook® Edition @ Amazon (...I trust Amazon Store's security > MS Store's :duck:).

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-2024-Premium-SteelBook®/dp/B0DH5FX3ST

Inside the "SteelBook" (FS2004 metal box nostalgia  ) was a MSFS product ID card; I redeemed that 'digital code' @ MS-Store.

MS Store recognized code immediately, and made MSFS24 available to install in MS Store "Library" section of purchased items.

After download of ~ 12GB, a few hours in Login queue on November 19th, to finish full install of MSFS24 and SDK v1.x update.

After backing up \Documents\MyFSProjects folder, in 2024 SDK, I open a MSFS20 Project original XML file in Project root folder.

Then I simply "Build All"; all projects tested so far compile without errors, and updated output Packages now load OK in MSFS24.

The MSFS 2024 SDK DevMode compiler seems to be more forgiving and successful than the one in MSFS 2020 so far.

A simple re-compile of 2020 Projects ported to 2024 is well worth a try, if ones 2020 Projects otherwise require no edits for 2024.

If doing edits, Developer Camera mode aligned closer to 'Top Down' axis, and zooming in on area of interest is smoother.

MSFS24 DevMode GUI and sim seems smoother if I set Rolling Cache to at least 32 GB (I am on 64 GB thus far; I may try more).

PS: I had to install an Adrenaline software update for my AMD RX 5700 XT video card because Windows 10 concluded AMD's Adrenaline software was no longer compatible with AMD's Video Driver version (AFAIK, both installed from same download ! :scratchch).

MSFS24 reported 'unstable' broadband; even though AT&T's Arris modem router is 100 Mbps, it later hung / required a restart.

Happy FS Developing !

I have been watching and I have a very long blogpost I have not posted yet.

For me, the biggest issue is their choice to stream the actual menus and career mode. This was a massive mistake, and they should 100% allow two key things to happen if this franchise is to avoid another 10 year gap.

* Allow the game to load, and you can play locally streamed locations you have chosen to cache offline. No internet required.
* Remove the encryption of the packages that seem the be streaming down. Unless I am mistaken, everything is now packaged up and mounted after download. I am still testing this.

As a network engineer, and someone the lives in Azure daily, I cannot believe how badly the server and content delivery on a *scalable platform* collapsed so quickly. In the stream, they talk about "a server" and "a single critical service" and for me, that is quite shocking statement to make, as it suggests they allowed a single point of failure and also a non-auto scalable platform. ON AZURE.

Inside, when the sim loads. It is beautiful, and yes it has flaws, but that is not what will sink this - it will be the inability for the game to load without an internet link running.

So frustrating!

This "Thing" us pure Junk!!!!! it updated to something yesterday. Now it takes Ages to Load!!!!!! when it was doing it quite fast!!!!! We got Screwed once again, wheter you like it or not!!!! I havce been waiting to go to an airport for over 15 minutes listening to the "Mortuary Music" some sicko placed in this junl!!!

Hi everybody
I agree with you all, I got frustrated myself very often with this simulator for many reason.
I have read all yours posts here and realize that personnaly i nerver had to experience any kind of streaming issues since the output of the simulator.
A clue is that, as i from Canada a different server path is used.
I would consider asking the question to '' Google AI '' about ratio of issues between different country for the MSFS simulator streaming quality.
I can see that for must of you are from European country right ?
So, to resume i hope all yours problems could be resolved and also mine one day !
