• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 MSFS Material DA-62; Separate Multi Material; How?

Hey all,

I havent got the MSFS Materials in Max 2020 and 2021. Issues with Python coding presently for Max is the word. Temporary setback.

That said, I have the Material from the downloaded DA-62 sample plane. But the Material it uses is a Multi Material.

How.... Do you separate a section (Material) from a Multi Material in 3ds Max?

What I want is that Fuselage layer on its own section, its own Material island. How do you do that?

I wonder if I can just clone copies of this Multi Material and rename the clones, like Fuselage, Wings, etc, using one MM for each section of parts assigned to it..... ?

Thanks for any help.

This is the cool MSFS Multi Material in the DA62 in Max 2021. I had to 'convert scene' per the automated recommendation in Max because this is a Max 2019 built project.

One way would be to clone the fuselage material, then select the aircraft, go to Polygon-subobject mode, in the properties list scroll down to polygon:Material ID's, type in 1 in the empty box and press select ID. This will select all polygons that have the material ID as 1(Fuselage material in this case). Then you can assign the cloned material to the object directly, and if required, detach it as a separate object.
