• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Multi Materials in FSX?

Hey all,

I have a friend that is having an issue in Gmax. An aircraft he is converting to FSX has Multi-Materials. When he creates a new MM in Gmax/FSX, the UVW gets screwed up.

Is there an easy way to create FSX Multi Materials? Is there something he should know about this? (a secret hidden button somewhere, possibly blue and white? eeks).

I have done these in FS9, but not in FSX, yet..

Bill, there's no such thing as an "FSX Multi-Material." What it is, is a regular Multi-Material that has "FSX Materials" in the MatID slots.

1. Create a new, empty Multi-Material with as many MatID slots as you need.
2. Drag-and-drop your existing FSX Materials into the appropriate MatID slot.

It is likely that it isn't the UVW that are getting scrambled, but rather the wrong MatID applied to the wrong polygons is corrupting the look of the model.

As Bill suggests, forcing Gmax to use your materials in the MatID's you want is the ONLY way to go, IMO.

Many thanks guys. I will pass this along.

I hadnt heard of UVW's getting lost in a material swap. It 'could' happen if you didnt select the actual base material being applied to a section being edited, etc. That happened to me during the Boeing 797 build. I had broken the hull into sections (big wing) and mapped with 4 materials. Then 'attached' the parts back together again, with the materials being auto-generated. Worked nicely for a while, then I had to edit some spots and 'heck' broke loose. I figured it out though.

But this was in FS9...

Thanks again guys.
