• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Multiplayer parking issue

Messages

Hey everyone, this has been a great site to learn on and I appreciate your efforts and contributions. I am a course developer at a flight school in the PHX area and have been influenced a lot by this site while creating missions/lessons for young student pilots practicing on FSX.

A few hours a day we run multiplayer sessions so they can practice radio communication and get familiar with the layout of local airports.

I recently edited an airport (with ADE) to mirror what the students will see when they head out to the flight line. The problem is this: We have 20 students connecting almost at the same time and only the first 4 students show up on the ramp. Starting with the 5th guy, the rest end up in flight. If we revert to the stock airport, everybody ends up on the ground again, but scattered about the airport.

My editing only consisted of deleting all parking spots, then creating 22 GA spots on our ramp.

Obviously the problem lies in how I edited the scenery file, whether I did or didn't do something wrong is beyond me. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to find a solution to this.

Hey KG!!! Welcome to FSD!!!

Sounds to me like it could be one of a couple things. Most obvious would be plane sizes they are in, and sizes of the parking you have in your edit. That would be my first thought... But, then again, as I think about it... That SHOULD only affect AI..not actual real pilots.

If you could post your edited ADE file, maybe one of the gurus here could take a gander at it and see where the problem may lie.

Hey Greg thanks for your thoughts.

I actually changed the size of the parking spots in the process of trouble shooting this problem. Still no luck.

So, here is the edited file. View attachment KDVT_ADEX_KG.zip Give it a look and we'll go from there..

Thanks..

Hi Folks

KG -
As per your query elsewhere -
* Have you distributed the file to all other users ?
* Have they installed it ?
* Have they activated it ?

Haven't rec'd any notification from wherever you'd originally posted.

BASys I haven't posted anywhere else, though I wouldn't be suprised if one of the instructors has posted here somewhere too. Anyway the answer to your question is yes. All computers running FSX from host to client have the proper file installed AND activated. No matter which computer hosts we come up with the same problem.. I really think it's a problem with this file, I just haven't figured out what it is yet:p

thanks,

Kim

Hi Folks

Kim -
My apologies,
must have been one of your colleagues. :D

It may possibly be aircraft size
that's preventing p/spot utilization, (radius 32.81')
AFAIK multiplayer will attempt to avoid spawning crashes.

What type of aircraft are you all flying ?
What's their wingspan in the aircraft.cfg, (value is in feet) ?
Which p/spots are always utilised ?

Well, we're flying archers and the wingspan is 35ft in the .cfg file.. I have changed the parking spot size to 45' without any change. Also tried spawning in as the ultra lite just too see if it was an Archer issue. still no luck.

The parking spots that are always spawned in on are 22 and 20 everytime, then it switches between 1, 4, 8 and 11 for the other two.

And as far as spawning crashes, it's happening to us! lol The remainder of the planes that spawn in the air, all spawn in on the exact same spot so it's a huge mid-air pile up with guys all spawning then crashing then loading, then spawning then crashing.. it's vicious circle.

You know, besides only editing the parking I did relocate the TWR to the actual position on the field, and all the in air spawns take place right over the top of the TWR. Hmmm... maybe coincidence or maybe I'm on to something!

Thanks for the replies everyone,

Kim

not sure how much help it'll be, but just by running fault finder, there were four missing start locations (*known to cause a few issues - in fault finder there will be a red button on top that says "Add Start"... do that for all four spots*), and the taxipath connecting the parking spots to the center of the runway isn't connected to the E/W taxipath (*the taxipoint is on top of it, but they didn't snap together - simply delete the point and try again*)

Once that's done, recompile/save/try again... if there's still no joy, let us know :)

(*EDIT - also, I'm showing the parking spots as being 10 meters, which if my math is right, comes out to almost 33 feet. If you're flying 35 foot aircraft, you might want to bump that up to something a bit larger like 12 meters*)

Hi Folks

Kim -
Size probably matters.
Archer - 35' a/c on a 32.81' diam spot
Ultralight - 33' a/c on a 32.81' diam spot

Additionally
the taxiway has insufficient lateral space,
between the two rows of parking
for a/c to pass clearly between rows.

My fault finder says you have an open link in the path leading from your parking area. That and the lack of starting places on the runways is a problem. I'm not sure why you deleted so much from the stock airport if you are trying to prepare them for the real thing. 10 meter parking places are plenty big for a piper, so that is not the problem. My sugestion woud be to start with the stock airport and just add more GA parking. To do so, you may need to add an apron in that one area where the rest of GA is located.

Good luck

Bob

what many of these guys are saying is definetely true, but is there any possibility that two or more people are both trying to load the same parking spot? :)

Okay guys, I really appreciate the feedback from all sources.. I resumed trouble shooting this morning and decided to start square one.. I loaded the default KDVT scenery and successfully joined 16 clients to it, and all where on the ground parked in random spots through out the airport. There is a North side GA parking area and a South side, we don't want the students spawning in on the North so I took the default scenery and deleted the North parking spots only. I left all start points and south parking. I then connect and can only get 8 aircraft to spawn on the ground. Seven in parking spots, 1 on the runway (which we don't want either, hence me deleting the start points in the first place). I am at a complete loss..
I'm actually starting to think the best course of action might be FShost or some sort of server all clients can connect to so FSX doesn't have a say how they're spawned into the game, just the student selecting a predetermined mission that selects his location on the airport then connecting to a MP session via FShost or some similar application.

Any thoughts?

Kim

I've taken off the North spots from the default airport. That leaves me with 21 spots (*not including the fuel spot*). You are saying that you are only seeing eight planes spawn -- seven in parking, one on the runway. If you look at the parking list, there are exactly seven parking spots over 10.0m. As I said before, make sure that your parking spots are the right size. Expand a couple and see if that makes the situation better... Once you alleviate that problem, you won't have anything spawning at the start location. :)

HTH

I won't be able to test it again until tomorrow, but I will say this about the parking size: 4 days ago I expanded all parking spaces to 45' with no change in outcome. Also today the 7 aircraft that spawned into a parking space only utilized 3 or the 7 larger spots, the rest were in the "small GA" parking spot.

Tomorrow when I go back to the airport I'll make all spots larger again just to make sure I'm not going crazy.

Thanks

Kim

Well, I've never tried multiplayer. When when each player logs on, do they get their choice of parking places, just as in single player? If so , and if you create enough parking in one area, assign each player a spot before hand, and have them go there at log on. Again, I thought you said all were flying Pipers. GA small parking (10mm) is plenty big for that plane.

Bob

For the record, an Archer is 30.0' (these are real world numbers.) An Archer II is 35.5'. The Archer III is also 35.5'.

So, 10m WILL NOT work if you are flying the II or III. You say that your cfg file lists 35', so again, 10m will NOT be sufficient.

- Greg

PS: As a note to all the developers.... if plane developers would just use the real world info on the aircraft they design...these problems would not be a big issue. But, apparently, many have never heard of Google, or even the manufacturers own web sites. Spend 1500 hours + creating a model, and you can't spend 5 minutes to find out the real numbers. Amazing!

Greg, Greg,Greg...

I can always count on you to dump a cold bucket of reality on me:eek:
By the numbers, you are correct. I was just answering based on what I see in my simm. So I looked up some numbers.
My simm must be broken. I just loaded the default King Air 350(57.2 ft) in FSX for a flight. Next to it is parked a default AI Maule(37.97ft), default AI C172(36.1ft), and a default AI Baron(37.8ft). All parked in their own 10m spots. I think there is a reason why this works, but I can't remember what is is. That, or I have to delete FSX and reinstall, again.
Maybe it's Vista. That's it. We all know Vista is evil.:yikes:

Bob

hehe, sorry Bob..

That is indeed odd. I have never paid much attention to the numbers, until I started really designing my own stuff...but never checked at a default airport to see what parks in what size... I will also do that.

Maybe there is some odd bug or error...would be great to know for sure...cause that could really make a difference in how we create parking. :banghead:

Maybe the next version of Windows will be better for y'all. Isnt it supposed to be released in October of this year? One of my uncles works for Kaplan University so he gets inside stuff. He says that he likes it, so who knows?;) Maybe XP will finally be obsolete. I personally like Vista, I dont see any problems with it.

I beta test 7...it's definitely way better than Vista, which I also beta tested. I know some people like it...but those are usually people that never used MAC. LOL

-Greg

(I wonder what sort of fun war this will get going.. LOL) Bad Greg...Bad Greg!!!!
