• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Multiple Hangar Door Animation

Hello!

This is my first post here so let me give you a little of my background. I'm fairly proficient at using GMax but have recently ventured into animations for the first time.

I have created a large hangar in GMax that contains 2 sets of hangar doors (each hangar door complex has 10 linear sliding doors). I set up the first set of 10 doors as a test case and successfully used CAT to trigger the animation using a nav2 frequency. That worked perfectly in FS2004!

Then, I added the second complex of hangar doors and extended the time length for the animation. I set the animation keys so the first hangar door complex opens from frames 0 to 300. The second set of hangar doors opens from frames 400 to 700. After successfully running this through CAT, the second set of hangar doors operates erratically (they snap open, then snap closed, and then begin opening normally) in Flight Simulator 2004. The first set of doors works perfectly. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong that would cause the second set of doors to act so strangely?

I can send in the asm or any other files if need be.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

Do they work correct if you test them in FS without running CAT? Maybe you need to add a position key manual somewhere, to fix the second doors till their time has come.

OK, the animation in FS2004 works without running CAT but it doesn't quite work the way it's set up in Gmax. In Gmax, the animation is set up so that the first set of doors opens completely (opening sequence occurs from frames 0 to 300) and then stays open. One hundred frames pass and then the second set of doors begins it's opening sequence (from frames 400 to 700).

In FS2004, the first set of doors will open and then slam shut and then begin opening again. This cycle repeats continuously. The second set of doors will remain closed until the first set of doors begins its second cycle and then the second set of doors will open and then slam shut. They open again when the first doors begin their second cycle.

Arno, in your post you mentioned setting a position key manual to fix the second set of doors until it's time for them to open. What is a position key and how do I set one? Unless you have another suggestion, I'd be willing to try that.

Thanks!

It's neccessary that all animated parts have the same start and end key. So if the complete animation works between 0 and 500 make sure that all parts have a 0-key and a 500-key. ;)

I thought about that, but CAT does check that, so you would get an error when your animations do not all have the same length. So I guess it must be something else.

hi

i have the problem than you. by my own experience i can say that you can start the opening at different time (frames),but the animations must finish at the same frame.

hello i have the solution

must create the first animation from 0 to 700 but you take a position key at 300. then you start the second part of your animation at 400 to 700. it will work. i've tried something like that and it's OK. i have 2 sliding doors, the first one has 3 position keys (0-200-300) but the animation will be between 0 and 200. the second door has 2 key (230-300). when i play the animation, the first one move, then there is a short time where nothing happens, then the second one will move... that's all :D
